Detailed Introduction

The Will County Community Health Center (WCCHC) is a vital healthcare institution in Joliet, Illinois, operating as a federally qualified health center (FQHC) under the umbrella of the Will County Health Department. Its core mission is to enhance the health and well-being of Will County residents by ensuring access to high-quality, integrated healthcare services, encompassing medical, behavioral health, and dental care. The center strongly emphasizes community collaboration, service, and education to achieve its goals. The WCCHC offers a wide array of services designed to meet the diverse needs of the community. These include comprehensive primary care for all ages, with specialized programs for adolescent health, adult medicine, and pediatrics, including well-child exams, immunizations, and school/sports physicals. A significant focus is placed on behavioral health services, offering psychiatric and medication management, individual and group therapy, and medication-assisted treatment for opioid and alcohol addictions. Dental services are available for both adults and children, and eye care is provided, often in collaboration with institutions like the Chicago College of Optometry, Midwestern University. Beyond general health, the WCCHC offers specialized services such as family planning, confidential HIV and STI testing and treatment, and an on-site PrEP clinic for HIV prevention. Obstetrics and gynecology services include prenatal and postpartum care, and collaborations with local hospitals like Silver Cross Hospital for deliveries and surgeries. The center also features an on-site pharmacy, tailored to serve patients with behavioral health, substance use disorder, and chronic conditions. To ensure accessibility, the WCCHC provides insurance assistance, helping eligible individuals enroll in Medicaid, Medicare, and Marketplace insurance. They also offer a limited number of same-day appointments for urgent care needs. Historically, the establishment of the Will County Community Health Center in 2003 was significantly influenced by the advocacy of Dr. Daniel Gutierrez, who served as its first medical director. His dedication to providing equal access to quality medical care for all, particularly low-income, uninsured, and underinsured residents, shaped the center's patient-centric approach. The WCCHC plays a crucial role as a safety net provider, aligning with the objectives of the Affordable Care Act by prioritizing preventive care and extending services to vulnerable populations who often face barriers to traditional healthcare. The center's patient demographics include a significant proportion of low-income, uninsured, and publicly insured individuals, with a notable percentage of Hispanic/Latino patients. The WCCHC actively engages with the community through various programs and events, often collaborating with other local organizations to address broader health and social determinants.

Omg, this facility is the closest to me. Their service is good but wait time is very horrible. After they are done taking your vitals it, takes an hour plus for a doctor to see you. You wi be sitting down in the consulting room without anyone attending to you. This is so crazy and I can’t believe that any time I come here that is what happens

I went to the health department for two physicals for my kids. Once we arrived for our appointment, the check in process was very smooth. Also, the registration process was thorough and very professional. We began our appointment within 5 minutes after registration was completed. Our Dr. was Dr. K (Anusha Khapekar), she handled everything like a true professional.

She was so friendly and approachable. Additionally, she explained everything in great detail. She was assisted by nurse practitioner, MK. Both ladies did an excellent Job and deserve to be recognized for a job well done. Plus, our prescriptions were called in immediately, wow! This place is highly recommended.

I use to work here and I understand how long it can take to be seen by a doctor or by anyone especially for walk-ins. But unfortunately it got to the point where it’s annoying and unprofessional. My bf had to leave early from work a few times for an appointment but unfortunately doctors such as Dr. Dolly keep leaving early/calling off.

Again I understand things happens but it’s so unprofessional to get a call a few minutes before the appointment to let us know she’s not there. And the one time he was seen by her she told him to pick a problem he wants to be seen since he has “too many” and is “busy” and keep in mind we schedule this appointment. Again I understand if it was a walk-in and she said this but in this case it was not.

I made a first time appointment to establish myself as a patient. I moved to Joliet from Chicago and I don’t know anyone here to leave my children with for the appointment. I arrived at 8am, my appointment was scheduled at 8:25.

They told me they couldn’t see me because of my boys (ages 7& 11). My boys are quiet and well behaved and they still weren’t allowed to wait in the waiting room, so I took them to wait in the car. So long story short, I was there from 8am till 10am and the doctor never came in the room to see me, so I left! Why make appointments if you still have to wait hours for the doctor!?Who knows how much longer I would’ve been waiting there ! I waited 2 mos for this appointment, to not even been seen and a total disappointment!
