I was spoken to very rudely today at my appointment when I was requesting a written breakdown of tray and lab costs for Invisalign. Dr. Ruparelia verbally explained what the costs were and appeared frustrated that I had requested for his receptionist to send me an email with a clear breakdown (e. g. what Invisalign charges the dental office, and what I pay as a patient to the dental office). He asked “Does this make sense?” and when I was apprehensive and asked for a clear written breakdown, he condescendingly stated to me “Why would the receptionist need to send you a breakdown of those fees when I’ve just explained it and when it's the single cost ($5400) for you?” The answer is quite simple: I would like to have it for my records. I stated that I wanted to ensure I understand it and he defeatedly asked me to speak to the front desk. As a student and young professional, I do not have a lot of extra cash flowing around and with any purchase into the 1000s, I like to have a paper trail for exactly where my money it is going, including how much the dental office is profiting off of the original cost.

I was also not offered any information on a payment plan options by Dr. Ruparelia for the 36 weeks it would take for my Invisalign treatment. All of this information should be transparently presented clearly and concisely in a format that works for their diverse clientele with varying needs. For example, it would be simple to create an informational PDF for their clients, so that we, as consumers of their services, are knowledgeable and informed about where the cost is going and how the process works. Dr. Ruparelia was not even 100% sure on the cost of Invisalign to his dental office (“I think around $2000") or how much his own dental office would charge for the treatment in total. I am neurodivergent and do not remember dates or numbers very well, and I prefer to have costs and numbers sent to me via email so that I may refer back to it if the need arises. This is how I best process information.

I am very disappointed at the lack of courtesy shown by Dr. Ruparelia. I’m not sure if he is simply having a bad day, is frustrated at having to repeat this information or angry that I have sought a second opinion on cost, but it is not acceptable to condescend upon and make clientele feel stupid for asking for information to be clearly communicated in ways that accessible and traceable. I was treated much better at Uptown Dental and quoted at a lower price. I have asked the office to remove me as a patient.

It’s an exceptional privilege for my son to have his football coach as his dentist. Dr Ruparelia is very professional, with an amazing team, a friendly office, the girls are very patient and friendly.
