If I can give zero stars I would. Went for wisdom teeth extraction and came out with level 2 nerve damage in my tongue, and level 1 in my bottom lip. The staff made a great first impression during the consultation, but during the procedure I woke up while Dr. Smail was still breaking down my last wisdom tooth. Nurses held my arms down and I received another injection in my mouth and went back to “sleep”. Following the procedure my sister and I were asked to sign a form that stated not of all of anesthesia we paid for was used during the procedure and we could be refunded $38. The appointment was about 45 mins to remove 4 wisdom teeth and practically threw me out the door after. When I called about constant numbness in my tongue still, they asked me to come in, waited a while just for Dr. Smail to downplay my symptoms and deny any accountability. Would not even explain to me what was going on and denied that I even woke up during surgery suggesting no way I’d even remember. Disgusting.
While everyone is nice and pleasant, this office is solely focused on your payment. If you are insured with NY State don't go here. I was billed a total of $945 and received a check for $17. The sad thing is the Dr. did 15 minutes of work tops. He also wouldn't let me talk and had no interest in me. He has pictures of his African Safari trips on the wall. I know every business has to make money, but if the company I worked for charged what he does for the little work he does we'd all be driving a luxury car like I'm sure he does!
I was referred to Dr Smail by my regular dentist for an extraction. When I got there they told me it was only a consultation, spent three minutes with me and ignored my pain.
They are only interested in making money
Would not answer my questions, only looked at me for 2 minutes before rushing out. Never answered any phone calls. Extremely rude and unsympathetic, ignores your worries and won’t reply to any questions you have, he just looked at me. Then left. Horrible doctor.
I’m 18 now, and got my wisdom teeth out at 15 with him. He damaged my lingual nerve and I have had half a numb tongue ever since, even though he told me it was going to come back in 6 months. It’s been 3 years, my Gums and tongue still have numbness. Every time I brought it up I also felt like he was not taking me seriously, which is my number one issue. I wouldn’t be so upset if he took the time to maybe explain himself and be straightforward with me.
Don't ... go somewhere else as fast as you can! Started out with a full upper denture. After 18 months, bone graf, four implants installed that would not support teeth (because Douglas Smail decided to put the implants in the roof of my mouth), bleeding, biting my mouth, I'm back where I started with my full upper denture. Two of the 4 implants had to be removed! Besides the whole experience, I'm also minus close to $20,000. Don't ........ go somewhere else as fast as you can
Very evasive with costs for an implant. I was told $2000 for the implant. Cost me 400 for a filler, 100 for consultation, 65 for xray wouldn't use the one my dentist sent. Then come back in 3 months, another 365 for a special xray. I should have had a full estimate in my hands before I agreed to have this procedure, so I could make an informed decision. Poor communication.
I went to see Dr. Smail after having a bad experience with another oral surgeon. Dr Smail and his staff were kind, patient, professional, and experts in their field. The treatment is far superior to any other.
I would highly recommend Dr Smail
My last review was “unhelpful” to a few, so I will clarify. Dr Smail saved my life. After a local well known dentist extracted 2 healthy teeth without the benefit of antibiotics I developed a nasty infection resulting in a hospitalization. Dr Smail was the surgeon who drained my infection from my neck before it could reach my heart. He validated me and my experience with the “dirty dentist” when most others would be silent or even make me feel like I was “ignorant patient “. He was there for me and continues to be, as my surgeon who will repair the damage by another. I’ll return to review the final result of his work. Until then I will trust him and respect his work ethic until I see otherwise.
