About
I have practiced comprehensive general dentistry since graduating from Georgetown University in 1984. In 2017, began my advanced education in orofacial pain and dental sleep medicine. My mentor, Dr. Steven Olmos of the TMJ and Sleep Therapy Centers International, developed a therapy that identifies the source of the oral-facial pain and treats the underlying issue to achieve lasting results. I began to understand how poor sleep and poor nasal breathing contributed to the facial pain and TMJ dysfunction.While sitting in one of his classes, I began to recognize that I was also one of these patients. I had pain in my face that I just thought was normal. I also had trouble sleeping, psoriatic arthritis, asthma, and high blood pressure. Shortly after, I sought a home sleep test, which was positive for sleep apnea. I began treatment with oral appliance therapy for my sleep apnea. Within months, I was pain free; my asthma was under control; my psoriatic arthritis no longer required medication; and the hypertension was gone. I felt like I was 20 years younger. Now, after extensive education, I am devoting all of my time to treating orofacial pain and sleep apnea with oral appliances. I am a diplomat with the American Board of Dental Sleep Medicine, a member of the American Academy of Craniofacial Pain, and a member of the American Academy of Dental Sleep. These disciplines require careful listening and patience with therapy, as most patients have been suffering for years, and it can take a few months to get better. I have my own Centre now, The TMJ & Sleep Therapy Centre of Pittsburgh.
