About
Dr. Gilliland's passion for dentistry is driven by experiences in his own life. Fifteen years ago, as a young chef and restaurant owner, his father was diagnosed with Stage IV Oral Cancer. The impact of this on his family inspired him to rethink his professional life. "I recognized the importance of thorough examination and early intervention, and I learned that I wanted to help people in a more profound way," he explains. His father survived his diagnosis, and Dr. Gilliland later went on to earn his Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from the University of Maryland School of Dentistry. In addition to General Dentistry, Dr. Gilliland is experienced in a wide range of advanced treatment and care. Surgical, cosmetic, periodontal, implant, endodontic, prosthetic and restorative dentistry are among his skills. He was an Oral Surgery Clerk at the University of Maryland School of Dentistry, completed a hospital-based general practice residency with the Wilkes-Barre VA Medical Center, and has earned the distinction of Surgical Fellow with the Misch International Implant Institute and Fellow of the International Congress of Oral Implantologists. Dr. Gilliland is engaged to be married to Ela, a family medicine physician resident at Tufts University. In his free time, he enjoys outdoor activities such as hiking, mountain-biking and kayaking.
