About
Dr. Fernandes is a 1999 graduate in Pediatric Dentistry from the Louisiana State University, School of Dentistry. On completion of her Residency in Pediatric Dentistry, she completed a Fellowship in General Anesthesia, Oral and Conscious Sedation and Treatment of Special Needs Children at the Kosair Children's Hospital at the University of Kentucky. During this time, Dr. Fernandes served as an Attendee and supervised Pediatric Dentistry residents and consulted on the Craniofacial Anomalies Team with the medical staff. Thereafter, Dr. Fernandes joined the University of Maryland, College of Dentistry as a Post-doctoral Fellow, where she taught dental students in the Department of Pediatric Dentistry in addition to performing research and clinical activities. Dr. Fernandes has lectured to dental students both nationally and internationally on various Pediatric Dentistry topics. Dr. Fernandes has been practicing Pediatric Dentistry in Northern Virginia since 2001 and has practiced as a General Dentist focusing on Pediatric dental needs since 1993. In addition to practicing in the United States, Dr. Fernandes has also practiced internationally in the Middle East and Asia. Her vast clinical and didactic experience plus extended training with special-needs children enables her to provide the utmost in specialized care for your children. Dr. Fernandes focuses on making each child's dental visit a fun and enjoyable experience. She uses age-appropriate communication and utilizes extensive experience in different aspects of behavior management and treatment modalities, including oral conscious sedation techniques that enable even the most anxious child to be relaxed and comfortable in the dental office.
