About
Lexington native, Kate von Lackum, graduated from Tates Creek High School in 1996. She received a Bachelor of Arts in Biology from Hanover College, Hanover, IN. She returned to Lexington to complete a PhD in Microbiology at the University of Kentucky in 2006. Dr. von Lackum attended the University of Florida College of Dentistry receiving a D.M.D. in 2010, while serving her classmates as vice-president for four years and working closely with the College of Dentistry administration. During her senior year of dental school, Dr. von Lackum was awarded the American Academy of Periodontology (AAP) Award for Outstanding Achievement in Periodontics. She went on to graduate from the University of Florida's School for Advanced Dental Sciences with a certificate in training in Periodontics. While completing her residency, Dr. von Lackum had the unique opportunity to attend and graduate from several extra-mural educational programs including the Pankey Institute in Key Biscayne, FL, the Pikos Institute's course on Advanced Bone Grafting, as well as the Misch International Implant Institute's complete Implant Surgical Program (120 hours of continuing education on implant surgery, bone and soft tissue augmentation techniques, and implant restorative treatment planing). Certifications of Excellence Dr. von Lackum is a Board Certified Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology. A Diplomate is a periodontist who has successfully completed a rigorous voluntary examination process and is certified by the American Board of Periodontology, achieving one of the highest recognitions of achievement afforded by the specialty. By successfully completing the examination process, Dr. von Lackum has demonstrated motivation for continued professional development, self evaluation, critical review of results of therapy, and commitment to providing the best, most up-to-date periodontal care possible. In addition to achieving diplomate status, Dr. von Lackum has also earned fellowship status in the International Congress of Oral Implantologists (ICOI). The ICOI is a tax-exempt, non-profit, worldwide dental educational organization. Fellowship status is achieved through demonstration of dental implant education, research, and clinical experience. Dr. von Lackum was honored as one of three national finalists for the Dr. and Mrs. Gerald M. Kramer Scholar Award for Excellence through the American Academy of Periodontology Foundation at the AAP Annual Meeting in Philadelphia, 2013. Finalists selected on the basis of personal motivation for excellence in character, academic achievement, leadership, community involvement, and demonstration of their concern for others.
