About

I earned my Bachelor of Science in physiology and neurobiology at the University of Maryland at College Park. Knowing that orthodontics was my ultimate goal, I enrolled at the University of Maryland School of Dentistry, where I graduated magna cum laude with my Doctorate of Dental Surgery and was inducted into Omicron Kappa Upsilon National Dental Honor Society. To complete my Master of Science and orthodontic certification, I attended Virginia Commonwealth University. I strongly believe that to provide the highest quality of treatment, I must remain up to date with the newest trends in orthodontics. I regularly attend continuing education courses and enjoy networking with other dental professionals. I am an active member of various state and national professional organizations, including the American Association of Orthodontists, American Dental Association, Virginia Orthodontic Foundation, and Virginia Association of Orthodontists. I am also published in one of the top professional orthodontic journals, The Angle Orthodontist.

I absolutely love being an orthodontist! Having the opportunity to be a positive part of our patients' lives and build long-lasting relationships with them and their families is what most excites me and makes me happy to go to work every day. I have so much fun inspiring our patients to smile with confidence and become the best version of themselves. Orthodontics gives me the unique opportunity to get to know my patients during a special time in their lives. I love building relationships with our patients and their families, watching them grow, and seeing their smiles transform over time. It is truly rewarding to help and inspire patients to smile with confidence.

Excellent orthodontic practice!

Professional, experienced, reliable care. We shopped around and checked multiple orthodontists and were very impressed by Dr. Nelson. She has been great with our vet nervous 8 year old who had a very complicated orthodontic situation. Dr. Nelson also provided excellent care for our 12 year old’s braces. We also LOVE the office staff and how prompt and helpful they are. We highly recommend this practice!

My daughter and I have been seeing Dr. Nelson for almost a year now for our Orthodontic needs and I am 100% satisfied with the services provided! We see Dr. Nelson on average, every six weeks and I've seen major progress in our corrective program. Dr. Nelson is very knowledgeable and always addresses my concerns with care. The office staff is polite and welcoming, refreshments are offered upon arrival and the office is always clean! Late in the day appointments are available for people like me that work a traditional 9-5, making it more convenient for our schedules. I would absolutely recommend Dr. Nelson for your Orthodontic needs.

I just had my braces installed last week, feeling very positive about the whole process. The Metropolitan Orthodontics team has been so easy and pleasant to work with, I really appreciate them working to solve my overly complicated insurance issues! It all goes back to my consult, Dr. Nelson took extra time to explain everything and patiently answer all of my questions, which was very helpful. Looking forward to my next visit.
