In keeping with the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry initiative to establish a dental home for each child by age one, Dr. Kenney has set forth an educational program to assist each family in creating routines that will help maintain dental health for life. Dietary, oral hygiene, and supplements as required are intended to raise awareness for both the parent and child that good choices can have dramatic positive effects. When a child does require dental treatment every effort is made to make each procedure as comfortable as possible. Many of our patients elect to use nitrous oxide analgesia (laughing gas) to help relax during treatment. In an effort to reduce anxiety for the child and parent, Dr. Kenney allows a parent to accompany each child for treatment if they wish. Dr. Kenney is very comfortable with his approach and considers it a great aid for many of his patients. Occasionally very young children require extensive care which is beyond their ability to understand and cope. These children are treated using deep sedation provided by an anesthesiologist. All of the treatment is completed in one visit while the child is asleep.
