Dr. Lewis Gilbert, DDS

In 1980, Dr. Gilbert completed his oral and maxillofacial surgery residency training at the West Virginia University (WVU) Medical Center at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, West Virginia. He is a Board Certified Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, holding these credentials for over 38 years. Prior to his oral and maxillofacial surgery residency training, Dr. Gilbert completed his four year Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree at the WVU School of Dentistry. He received the outstanding Senior Dental Student Award in oral and maxillofacial surgery for his interest and excellence in the field while a dental undergraduate. Dr. Gilbert also graduated cum laude with a four-year Bachelor's Degree in Pre-Medicine from WVU. He was a Presidential Benedum Scholar and was involved in many academic, social and fraternal organizations as a college undergraduate. Dr. Gilbert is a Clinical Associate Professor with the WVU School of Dentistry-Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Department. He has held this position since 1981. Dr. Gilbert has been a State Examiner for the WV State Board Dental Anesthesia Subcommittee for the past 18 years and continues to stay active with this position.Dr. Gilbert is also past president of the WV Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and is a past president of the New River Dental Society. For over 12 years he held the office of West Virginia Delegate to the American Association of Oral Maxillofacial Surgeons (AAOMS). At the national level, he recently completed a six-year term on the Commission on Professional Conduct and is well respected among his peers in the Southeast District III as well as from coast to coast.
