About
Dr. Neil L. Starr was born in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, and graduated from McGill University Dental School. After completion of a general dental residency program at the Jewish General Hospital, he attended the University of Pennsylvania where he received postdoctoral training in periodontics and fixed prosthodontics. Dr. Starr lectures nationally and internationally to groups of surgeons and restorative dentists. He has authored a series of articles on treatment planning and sequencing therapy in the comprehensive treatment of the partially edentulous case, appearing in the inaugural issue of The Seattle Study Club® Journal and the scientific issue of the Alpha Omegan. Other clinical articles have appeared in the Compendium of Continuing Education in Dentistry, the International Journal of Periodontics and Restorative Dentistry, and Quintessence of Dental Technology. He contributed a textbook chapter for Periodontics, Medicine, Surgery and Implants, Mosby, St. Louis 2004, titled "Restoration of the Periodontally Compromised Dentition", and an article titled "Therapeutic Occlusion for Ceramic Veneers and High-Strength Zirconia Restorations: Constructing Anterior Guidance" in Quintessence Dental Technology, 2005. Two more chapters appear in the textbook titled Interdisciplinary Treatment Planning – Principles, Design, Implementation (Quintessence Publishing Co. Inc. 2008), with chapter titles "Establishing a Stable Occlusal Scheme" and "A Comprehensive Approach to Treatment With and Without Endosseous Implants." His most recent textbook chapter appears in "Cosmesis of the Mouth, Face and Jaws" (Wiley-Blackwell 2012) titled "Optimal Use of Dental Implants for Cosmesis: Creating Aesthetic Outcomes with Dental Implant Restorations." Dr. Starr had been a clinical associate professor of periodontics at the School of Dental Medicine, University of Pennsylvania for approximately 20 years. He maintains a private practice in prosthodontics, in Washington, D.C.
