About
Dr. Lykins grew up in the North Georgia mountains of Clayton, Ga. She attended and graduated from the University of Georgia with a BS in Biology and received her Doctorate of Dental Medicine (DMD) from the Medical College of Georgia. Her commitment to providing the finest dental care possible is emphasized in the prevention and early detection of problems. Professional memberships include: Georgia Dental Association (GDA), American Dental Association (ADA), Northwestern District Dental Society, International Rotary, Gilmer Chamber of Commerce, and International Optimist Club. Some of her achievements are being inducted into the Bulldog 100 Club of 2012 (Recognized by UGA alumni as one of the fastest growing businesses), Gilmer Rotarian of the Year (2009), and Past Presdient of Gilmer Rotary Club. Dr. Lykins continues to give back to her community by volunteering at the GMOM (Georgia Mission of Mercy) as well as at Good Samaritan, a Dental clinic in Jasper. Dr. Lykins has been practicing in Ellijay since 2002 when she and her husband, Larry (owner of Cartecay Vineyards), moved into this close knit community to start Lykins Family Dentistry. The Lykins have 3 children in the local school system who keep busy doing soccer, swim, cross country, and kayaking. When Dr. Lykins is not busy helping coach one of the children's activities, helping make decisions on the elected school SGT committee, or attending the local 1st UMC, she is at the office assisting patients with their dental needs. She believes modern dentistry today should be comfortable and fun for not only the patient but the dentist. She treats everyone she sees like family! Dr. Shay D. Lykins D.M.D.
