About
Dr. Futrell is a native of Richlands, North Carolina, and graduated from Richlands High School as the class of 1987's Valedictorian. He continued to excel at North Carolina State University and graduated in 1991, Summa Cum Laude, one of the highest honor awards, with a Bachelors of Science in Zoology. After undergraduate school, Dr. Futrell began his dental studies at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. While he was there, one of his numerous research projects was published in a well known dental journal; it was based on the study of glass ionomer, a material that is no longer used in the dental field due to poor quality results. Dr. Futrell is so passionate about the study of dentistry, he has been an adjunct professor at UNC-CH School of Dentistry since 1995, has taught continuing education courses, lectured on ceramic dentistry and was a past President for the Onslow Dental Society. He also evaluates exams for The Council of Interstate Testing Agency for dental licensure in the state of North Carolina. Currently his memberships include the American Dental Association (ADA), the North Carolina Dental Society and the Academy of Computerized Dentists. Dr. Futrell and his wife, Tammy, his high school sweetheart, have two children; Austin and Chandler. At a very early age, Dr. Futrell knew he wanted to be in the health field and decided to be a veterinarian. However, at this young age he also realized allergies were going to prevent the veterinarian dream and decided dentistry was the avenue he was to pursue. During his spare time, he enjoys being active in his church community, attending his son's sporting events, his daughter's dance recitals, traveling to new ventures and attending as many home Wolfpack football and basketball games as possible. The most favorite aspect of dentistry for Dr. Futrell is his patients; making them happy and seeing their smiles.
