Dr Thomas McDermott was born and raised on the north side of Chicago in the Rogers Park and Edgewater neighborhoods Growing up Dr McDermott attended St Gertrude grammar school and Loyola Academy High School in Wilmette Dr McDermott received his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Loyola University 1978 and later earned both his dental degree 1985 and law degree 1995 from the same institution Dr McDermott now resides in Midlothian with his wife and three daughters Having practiced dentistry for over thirty years Dr McDermott believes that oral health cannot be separated from general health Thanks to modern medicine the American population is living longer This increased longevity however has created challenges for oral health For example many medications that allow a person to live a long and happy live often decrease salivary flow which in turn negatively affects the person s teeth Dr McDermott s goal is to keep his patients natural teeth as healthy beautiful and long living as they are
