About
Dr. Vanessa Axelsen was born and raised in the suburbs of Portland, Oregon. She moved to Sioux City, Iowa for college and graduated from Morningside College with her Bachelors degree in Biology. She pursued her interest in dentistry and graduated with honors as her class valedictorian from the University of Iowa College of Dentistry & Dental Clinics in 2013. After completing dental school, Dr. Vanessa decided to further her dental education and completed a two-year post-graduate residency specializing in pediatric dentistry at the University of Iowa. Dr. Vanessa provides comprehensive dental care for children of all ages and has had significant training in the care of individuals with special health care needs. Her training includes orthodontic care, emergency treatment, treatment in the dental office using nitrous oxide and conscious sedation, as well as, treatment in the operating room under general anesthesia. Dr. Vanessa is a board-certified pediatric dentist and is an active member of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and American Dental Association. She dedicates herself to providing the highest quality dental care, while paying close attention to each individual child's needs. She strives to make every visit a positive and fun experience while children learn to care for their own oral health. Her passion for pediatric dentistry started during dental school during her rotation through the pediatric dental clinic. She immediately found her niche working with children of all ages. Being able to walk children through their dental appointments and relax their nerves is what she finds most rewarding. Dr. Vanessa and her husband, Mike, have a young son, Emmett.
