I switched about 4 years ago to Byrd Frederick. (I've never seen or talked to Dr. Byrd) Doctor Law is an amazing dentist! I'm not a fan of dentists because of some bad past experiences, but Dr. Law handled fillings for me so well, I didn't even need anesthetic (local or otherwise turns out that works better for me).
I had a good hygienist for years there, but unfortunately she moved on after 3 years. I find the dental staff friendly and good at what they do and the admin staff professional (but a bit overworked/frustrated, however, I don't take it personally). Note that I do have special requests due to past experiences with other providers and they are great with those limitations (I never have to remind them, they actually read my chart!).

If you want professional people to check your teeth this is not the place! First I went to this place because I needed a fill, I had a cavity. It was around May, but I think they did nothing but talk. Because my tooth still hurt! Second They gave me an appointment for a cleaning for August. .
. I wait 3 month for the cleaning and they just call me 2 days before the appointment. They wanted to give me an appointment for today at 6 pm if not I have to wait until October. This is not professional at all, we all have plans and this is why we made appointments in advance! this ridiculous people just made me waste my time!!! never going back here!

Three years ago I gave this dentist a five star review. I loved the hygienist Hannah and Dr Mak. The past two years it feels like every appointment was getting worse and I was wanting to switch but it’s such a hassle. I wish I had. I recently went and they said I need two fillings. One was to replace a filling they did maybe two years ago (I also had a filling they did that fell out within a year while I was in the chair getting my cleaning done). The other they said was just a filling. I get scheduled with Dr Byrd to do the filling and HE DOES NOT WEAR A MASK so was spitting into my face and eye and mouth while he’s doing the drilling. I then have the worst pain which I am still dealing with. When I went back the next day, they shaved down the filling and pain got better immediately and for two days, but then gradually is getting worse.
When I went back that day they said it was a deep filling so I actually need a root canal. I guess I’m confused since they just charged me $150 for a filling, and are now quoting $700 for a root canal. Previously with Dr Mak when I had a larger cavity she prepared me for both options and said they would decide and we would talk about it. I had scheduled a second appointment to talk about it with Dr Law. They had me come in and the hygienist checked the tooth and said yeah I needed a root canal. Dr Law did not even have the decency to come in and talk to me (yet she put a note in my chart including direct quotations which I did not say and certainly did not say to her since she did not come in even though she was free in the lobby area). I had no pain prior to this filling, a root canal was not discussed and now I’m in the worst pain of my life down my neck and through my head and the dentist did not even check me and talk to me. I am going elsewhere for cleanings and this problem. I would rather pay someone else more than them for this problem that they created. Other things that I had forgiven before that made me want to switch- you basically can’t reschedule a cleaning - their cleaning schedule books six months out, but they will cancel last minute and give no alternative or say they will call back and don’t.
We also overpaid over a year ago for fillings and have had a $300 credit that I only learned about now when they charged out of pocket against the credit for a cleaning rather than insurance. I actually had called a year ago when I got the EOB from insurance and saw we overpaid but the person at Byrd said we didn’t and the EOB was wrong. When I called asking about the credit and why they charged out of pocket they said it was because we had reached the plan limit which we had not it reset in July and this was the first visit since then. They then were using this credit to pay for this $150 filling. Since I am not returning I asked to be refunded the remainder. They said they have to wait for insurance but they always refund. My insurance shows it was paid but maybe they haven’t gotten it yet, but clearly they do not always refund since this credit is from over a year ago and they did not refund and then we’re trying to pay down the balance with charging us for a cleaning. Unethical at best, fraudulent at worst.

My family and I just recently moved to the area. A friend recommended Byrd Dental since he has been in Frederick for about 10 years. He was right! We made our appointments and felt very comfortable, even during covid! The office is very clean and what made me leave this review was to thank the Dental Hygienist Lauren for making my kids teeth cleaning and check up very calm and fun.
It was my 4 year old son’s first teeth cleaning and check up, and I couldn’t believe how happy he was after. Now my kids are excited to go back to the dentist. That says a lot! ❤️🤣Thank you Byrd Dental! -The Stiegler Family
