The staff here is extremely friendly and the doctors are very professional. I’m typically anxious at the dentist but they were very good and I didn’t feel any pain. It was nice to know that a dental visit doesn’t have to be terrifying.

Dundas & Main Dentistry A Review by Hassan Hawash Another Pleasant Visit to the Dentist A pleasant visit to the dentist? That’s right! It is because there is such a state of serenity, a calmness when in the company of Doctor Abeer, our family dentist, in her clinic. The ambiance she creates speaks to her ability to communicate. In the times when I have come on my own, with my wife, my daughter and most recently with my son, I have observed that Dr. Abeer can speak volumes with few words. This economy of words also speaks volumes to her efficiency which was evident during our last visit. Dr. Abeer’s calling card has to be her chairside manner. This has become very apparent to me in visit after visit. The tone that she sets has the effect of alleviating any kind of anxiety my son may have felt in what could otherwise feel like a stressful environment.

Even the way she enters the operatory lends itself to this tone. That is to say, she meets us relaxed, with a smile and a friendly greeting communicating to us she is in a good mood, that is all is well which, in turn, generates a calming effect on the patient, to be sure. I admired the fact that she engaged with her patient, my son, regularly checked in with him spoke to him at eye level pointing out what she was about to do as she did it. She most reassuringly showed a natural willingness to pay attention to him referring to Joud as ‘honey’. I remarked, to myself, on the doctor’s ever so gentle calming soothing manner when she would very patiently respond to my ten-year-old son’s queries about what she was about to do before starting the procedure to fill my son’s tooth. By the time she got on with the task at hand, my son had reached a state of tranquility, pretty well placid he was. To put him even further at ease, Dr. Abeer established signals pointing out to Joud that should he need anything while she was applying the filling, all he had to do was raise his hand. Every so often she would ask Joud if he was okay showing to what extent she takes into consideration what effect the patient may be feeling as far as their pain threshold is concerned.

All that said, Dr. Abeer’s deft hands were very efficient in carrying out the task at hand as she has done for every family visit of ours. We were in and out of her operatory in about 15 minutes. Aside from her very obvious skill, it was her manner, her work from the heart which has left a lasting impression on us. My son has no qualms about coming to see Dr. Abeer again and again.
