Detailed Introduction

The East Carolina University (ECU) School of Dental Medicine - Elizabeth City, NC, is one of eight Community Service Learning Centers (CSLCs) established by ECU across rural and underserved areas of North Carolina. These centers are a cornerstone of the ECU School of Dental Medicine's innovative educational model, which aims to address the shortage of dentists in these regions while providing comprehensive dental care to the local population. The Elizabeth City CSLC operates as a modern Dental clinic, offering a wide range of general dental services to patients from infants to seniors, including those with special needs. Services provided include comprehensive General dentistry, children's dentistry, oral surgery (extractions), root canals, sealants and tooth-colored fillings, crowns and bridges, dentures and partial dentures, implant services, periodontal services and cleanings, cosmetic tooth whitening, digital radiography, and 3-D/Cone Beam Imaging. The clinic accepts Medicaid and other insurance plans, and payment is due at the time services are rendered. Emergency services are available on a walk-in basis during operating hours, with after-hours emergency care for established patients. Beyond patient care, the Elizabeth City CSLC serves as a vital training ground for fourth-year ECU dental students and residents in advanced general dentistry programs. Students complete intensive clinical rotations, gaining hands-on experience under the supervision of experienced faculty. This unique approach allows students to learn about the specific needs of rural communities and fosters a commitment to serving these areas upon graduation. The clinic exemplifies ECU's mission to "Servire" (to serve) by providing accessible, high-quality Oral health care to citizens who might otherwise lack access. It is also an operational partner with Albemarle Hospital, further integrating dental care with broader community health services.

Very clean, helpful, safe feeling environment. I have not been able to get all of my dental needs met yet. But I'm going to be returning to them, after my complex oral surgery gets completed. Thank you so much for the kind heartedness, and complete understanding of my complex medical history journey.

Meetings with individuals with such wonderful bedside manners are nearly impossible to find now days. I bow too you two.

I was sitting in the waiting room as I observed the front receptionist as she greeted every patient by name with a smile. She greeted them, checked them in and answered any questions they had. She went above and beyond by helping patients get in the door that needed help.

Also, she checked them in while they sat in the waiting room so they didn't have to stand. The staff was very nice and professional.

The receptionist at the front, older white lady with blonde hair is extremely rude and unfit for her job. She did not want to help me at all or give me advice for a life or death situation. She tried to raise her voice to embarrass me saying “I’m trying to get you in but your refusing help” after I told her I couldn’t afford it so I had to run out in the building in tears since she wanted to make me feel so low and pathetic for my insurance being on a waiting period and me not having the fund pushing me to have a breakdown.

I also brought and sent over multiple types of X-rays and they still wanted me to pay out of pocket for there own when I’m going broke trying to stay alive when your facility could care less about patients in need for help.

I had my teeth cleaning, X-rays, and a tooth fill in all with Anna. She is absolutely amazing, she made sure I was comfortable every step of the way and made sure to answer any questions I had and also checked in with her attendee which also made me feel very comfortable. I came to this office twice and both times I had great experiences with the woman up front who checked me in and out and everyone in the back.

I don’t understand all the negative reviews, I’ll definitely be referring people here, and I will be coming back as well. Thank you for taking care of my teeth and making me feel not judged with the whole process. And Anna I hope you succeed in everything you’re doing girl, keep rocking on!!
