The dentist misdiagnosed me and it’s very unfortunate! He said he would be able to do an extraction and come to find out I have to see an oral surgeon!! Be cautious about this office.

Beware of Deceptive Practices and Poor Communication I had an extremely disappointing experience at Family Dental Care in Kannapolis and feel compelled to warn others. I scheduled an appointment using a Groupon for $100 off a cleaning—which was my sole reason for visiting. At no point during my initial call was I informed about the process for new patients, the expected appointment duration, or the possibility that a cleaning might not be done on the same day. When I arrived for my 9 AM appointment, I was still not given clear information about what to expect. By 10:30 AM, I had yet to see a hygienist or be properly informed of the next steps. Instead, I was tricked into signing a consent form for a deep cleaning under the pretense that it was just permission for them to examine my mouth.

When I questioned some of the wording, the staff downplayed it, telling me it was "just permission to touch my mouth. " Nowhere did they mention the cost of the procedure or that they would refuse to perform a standard cleaning. Once the hygienist finally arrived and began numbing my mouth, I asked more questions and realized what was happening. She refused to do a basic cleaning, claiming my X-rays required a deep cleaning instead. Since we did not have the time, nor were we informed of the cost upfront, we decided to leave. What made this worse was that as soon as I expressed concern about leaving without treatment, the hygienist changed her story.

She suddenly claimed that my teeth weren’t in immediate danger and that I’d be fine waiting another 3-6 months—which completely contradicted her initial stance. This made me question whether her diagnosis was exaggerated to push unnecessary and expensive procedures. Ultimately, we did not receive any service, nor did we pay for anything, but the entire experience felt like a bait-and-switch. The lack of transparency, misleading consent process, and refusal to provide the service I came for left me frustrated and distrustful. I cannot recommend this office and urge others to be extremely cautious.
