Detailed Introduction

Family Dentistry, located at 3607 Whitehall Park Dr, Charlotte, NC 28273, is a dental clinic specializing in providing comprehensive oral healthcare for the entire family. The practice prides itself on offering a welcoming and comfortable environment, aiming to alleviate dental anxiety for patients of all ages, from toddlers to seniors. Many "Family Dentistry" clinics in Charlotte, including those with similar names, emphasize a "cradle-to-gray" care philosophy, meaning they strive to be a single, convenient dental home for all family members, eliminating the need to visit multiple specialists as individuals age. These clinics typically offer a broad spectrum of dental services. These commonly include: Preventive Care: Routine dental cleanings and exams, fluoride treatments to strengthen enamel and prevent decay, dental sealants (especially for children) to protect molars from cavities, and oral cancer screenings. They also provide personalized recommendations for home care routines, including proper brushing and flossing techniques, and dietary advice. Restorative Dentistry: Services like fillings for cavities, crowns, bridges, and in some cases, dental implants to restore the function and aesthetics of damaged or missing teeth. Root canal treatments are also a common offering. Cosmetic Dentistry: Procedures designed to enhance the appearance of smiles, such as teeth whitening, veneers, and clear aligners (like Invisalign) as an alternative to traditional braces. Emergency Dentistry: Many family dental practices also provide services for dental emergencies, addressing urgent issues like severe toothaches, knocked-out teeth, or dental abscesses. Periodontal Care: Diagnosis and treatment of gum disease, including scaling and root planing, and ongoing periodontal maintenance. Patient testimonials for various "Family Dentistry" clinics in Charlotte frequently highlight the friendly and professional staff, the welcoming atmosphere, and the quality of care received. Patients often appreciate the personalized attention, the transparent explanations of treatments and billing, and the effort made to ensure comfort during visits (e.g., offering blankets, providing entertainment). The continuity of care, where dentists know the family's entire dental history, is often cited as a significant benefit, allowing for more informed treatment decisions. Many practices invest in advanced equipment and technology to ensure patient comfort and effective treatment.

A poor customer experience: Prior to entering, I paid a $33 co-pay for a bi-annual cleaning. Usually, payment is made after the visit- not here. Once I was in the office, the dentist refused to allow the hygienist to perform a "standard" cleaning, as this would have been "unethical" for her to perform. The reason for this was because they believed I had periodontal disease, a condition which affects 47. 2% of the population over the age of 30, according to the CDC. The dentist said that the only way for his office to "ethically" clean my teeth would be for me to return 3 times, paying a $33 co-pay each time, plus $240 for a special cleaning. I left the office feeling like I had been scammed.

This has never happened before in all my years of visiting any dentists. I decided not to return, but to make an appointment with another practice. Another strange thing about the visit, was that during the entire time I was there, the dentist and his assistant kept their masks on- I never saw either without a mask. The assistant also had a disposable cap on and safety glasses. If I saw either outside their office, I'm sure I wouldn't recognize them. It felt like they did not want me to know who they really were. .

. Update- Since visiting Family Dentistry, I have had a checkup at another dental office that I trust. They provided me with a standard cleaning. They acknowledged my periodontal disease, but felt that it wasn't advanced enough that I needed a special cleaning.
