Detailed Introduction

Healthy Smiles Carolina, located at 9424 Falls of Neuse Rd #105, Raleigh, NC 27615, is a dental clinic that opened in 2017 with the primary goal of making dentistry a safe, comfortable, and enjoyable experience for children. While their initial focus was on pediatric dentistry, catering to babies, toddlers, kids, and young adults, their approach extends to providing comprehensive family dental care. They emphasize creating a welcoming atmosphere, aiming to alleviate dental anxiety that many patients, especially children, may experience. The clinic offers a broad spectrum of dental services to address various oral health needs. Although specific service details from their website were limited in the search results, typical family dental practices like Healthy Smiles Carolina generally provide preventive care (cleanings, exams, X-rays), restorative treatments (fillings, crowns, root canals), and potentially cosmetic dentistry (teeth whitening). They accept most insurance plans and Medicaid, and also offer in-house membership plans to make dental care more affordable and accessible for their patients. Patient testimonials and reviews often highlight the friendly, professional, and compassionate nature of the staff and dentists at Healthy Smiles Carolina. Patients appreciate the thorough explanations of procedures, the emphasis on comfort during treatments, and the overall positive experience. The team is described as dedicated to patient well-being, focusing on education and empowering patients to make informed decisions about their oral health. They aim to build long-term relationships with their patients, fostering trust and a positive perception of dental visits.

If I can give 10 ⭐️ I would this place took my son the first day I called because another dental place dropped him off their cake that very day. They were patient and gentle and explained everything in a kid friendly way for my 3yr old to understand. He didn’t cry he wasn’t scared he enjoyed it and I’m grateful for this place thank you.

Upon walking in the door, the experience was pleasant with the front desk staff. Things quickly went downhill after that. The only redeeming quality of the dental cleaning was the dental assistant who was gentle and patient with my young daughter on her first dentist visit. My daughter was nervous but compliant with her and allowed her to brush her teeth, floss, and apply fluoride.

The dentist Shelly, however, was abrupt and rough with my daughter who was scared and I saw her at one point grip my daughter’s right sleeve of her shirt in an attempt to hold her down. I wish I would have snatched my daughter out of the chair and walked away but regretfully, I did not. Shelly took no time to build rapport with an obviously nervous toddler and was visibly frustrated, hectic, and rushed. While my daughter was turning away and clearly not relaxed, Dr Shelly thought it would be a good time to grab her sharp dental scraping tool and try to put it in my daughter’s mouth and then scold her for moving.

I feel I have failed my daughter as parent by allowing her first dental experience to be with Dr. Shelly, and only hope the comfort she felt in the beginning with the dental assistant can overshadow it. If you are looking for a provider to introduce themselves to your child, take a couple minutes to build a little rapport, and ensure your child’s safety, then this is not the dental office for you.

Please "Like" our reviews. This clinic is wheelchair accessible. *Tip: If you are a new patient, def request the paperwork & prepare it in advance. (If it is sent via email, check your junk mail. ) We were referred to this dentist because they specialize in working with children. We spoke with the dentist personally because of issues my toddler has had. Our son who is 3. 5 yrs old has been through several medical procedures, pre-op tests and surgeries so he suffers from medical trauma. I fought with him to get him dressed and out the door. He was so intensely afraid that he even wet himself as we walked out the front door. Upon arriving we were greeted in an empty lobby. This facility is accepting patients one at a time and sterilizing and cleaning after each one. Masks for children are not required.

The staff asked a million questions about my child and then spoke to him softly and escorted him to the dental chair. He was so comfortable that he entered without me. After completing paperwork, I went back to see how he was. He was just hanging out in the chair and playing with the dentists mirror tool. He was so calm and relaxed. The dentist came in and spoke with me and him. They examined his teeth. Before doing so, they offered him sunglasses to wear. He sat so still and then they told him they would be painting his teeth. He was absolutely comfortable. Following the flouride treatment, they gave him a treat bag to take home. He was so excited about it. My husband returned home from work just as my son was waking from his nap.

The first thing he said to my husband was, "I paint my teeth!" We will def be continuing to stick with Dr Crystal and Dr Shelly. Dr Crystal has children and seemed to understand my child better than most of our relatives do. They & their staff are amazing. This facility seems new and they will be expanding soon. They have games and activities for kids in waiting but due to COVID they have stored them away. In touring the office I saw some of the setup they have and cannot wait to go back later when all of them are out. The appointment for dental check and flouride treatment cost $75 without dental coverage. They also have an annual membership plan for those who are interested. It is not expensive and entails more services for growing kids. Thank you to all the Healthy Smiles Staff. You made this experience memorable & calm. I cannot tell you how relieved I was as a mother. Thank you always!! See you in October, Lil Bear & Fam
