Detailed Introduction

The Jane Pauley Community Health Center, 16th Street Dental, is a key location within the broader Jane Pauley Community Health Center network. This organization is a non-profit Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), meaning it is specially funded to provide accessible and affordable healthcare to all individuals, regardless of their insurance status or ability to pay. The 16th Street Dental center, located at 5317 E 16th St, Indianapolis, IN, offers a range of essential dental services. These include routine cleanings and examinations, pediatric cleanings and exams, fillings, restorations, sealants, and non-surgical periodontal treatment. For more complex procedures like root canals, dentures, crowns, and implants, the center provides referrals to partnering organizations that offer these services at affordable rates. Beyond dental care, the Jane Pauley Community Health Center emphasizes an integrated healthcare model. While the 16th Street Dental location primarily focuses on oral health, the larger organization provides comprehensive services such as family medicine (including well checks, preventative services, acute issues, and chronic disease management), pediatrics (from newborns to 18, offering well-child checks, vaccinations, and sports physicals), OB/GYN services, and behavioral and mental health support (individual and group counseling, consultations, and assessments). The center is committed to addressing whole-person health, including social determinants of health. They offer free assistance with health insurance enrollment, financial aid applications (including a sliding fee scale based on income), and connect patients with other community resources like transportation assistance (e.g., bus passes) and on-site food pantries at various locations. The Jane Pauley Community Health Center was established in 2009 with support from local community organizations and is named after the renowned Emmy-winning TV journalist Jane Pauley, who is a native of the area and a longtime advocate for children's and mental health. Their mission is to provide accessible, respectful, and integrated healthcare to all, fostering a healthy community by reducing health disparities and ensuring quality care with integrity, community focus, stewardship, and partnership. They accept Medicaid, Medicare, and most commercial insurances, and offer discounted rates for self-pay patients.

I was referred to this place by my family doctor for help to talk to a psychiatrist as I have experienced the worst pain in my entire life by finding my husband of 40 years marriage laying on the ground outside of our home that took a gun and rammed it into his heart cavity and shot him self. Me and my son had to see and watch him lay there struggling screaming my head off for him not to die on me. ( my husband had been sick for years and had Lewy Body Dementia). I first was saddled up with a nurse practitioner I had no reason to see her at all. Then 3 months later, I finally got to meet the Doctor. I was terrified to open up and talk about all this, I am not a person who does that sort of thing. But I knew I needed help.

This Dr. Hart young man was very aluf and flipped as he did appsultly nothing but type on his keyboard and while asking his questions, I felt very dismissed and as if I should not have went. I wanted to run out of that room, I wanted to tell him he had no zero bedside manner he was cold and rude and I believe he probably got his degree by the skin of his theeth. He could noway understand my loss as he hasn’t been alive as long as I was married. I wish Dr. Phil could read him the riot act!! This doctor had no empathy. Now I am getting called to see if they can help transfer me to a different location.

I am a fellow alumni of Jane Pauley herself and I totally plan on letting her know how poorly her dreams are being ran. She opened these places to actually help people. The staff I cannot say much the ladies I dealt with were very kind and seemed to know their part in the job. So, here I sit 8 months later with zero help! Run for the wind the other direction if you need counseling help to survive. (This was not a dental place at the time)

I have been in so much pain for the last month with my tooth, I called this morning and the lady was so kind and helpful I was in tears. The dental office off of 16th was clean and professional. The staff were all very kind and prompt when it came to taking care of my issue. I went in today and had the tooth pulled today.

Since I am unemployed at this time I didn't have to pay anything up front at all. The front desk assistant said I'd be getting the $30 bill in the mail, which is totally fine with me because that allows me to make the payment as I am able to. I would definitely go back here for any future problems! Thank you Jane Pauley Dental!

I just visited for the 1st time for myself and my son. It was professional, clean and had friendly staff. I was able to wait outside and be called in because there were others in the waiting room. Everyone wears masks, but if you can't get an early appointment so none else is there, that's the next best option. The hygienist who worked with my son was very good with him and helped him get through the hard process of taking x-rays.

I had to do a lot of x-rays to do as well (that wasn't fun!). I am used to doing everything all together (x-rays, exam, cleaning) but I was scheduled for another day for the cleaning. That would be my only suggestion to change in light of new practices that made me feel safe during this horrible covid season. I was told scheduling is different now, more staggered to limit patients to an hour. I would try to change for new patients to longer time blocks.

The office is flexible to what works for you. My son is used to "getting a prize" after leaving the dentist and if individual bags are given vs letting kids choose from a toy box, that would make kids so happy right now. Either a book or a small prize in a ziplock bag is a great addition to an already great office. :)
