Detailed Introduction

Missouri Highlands Dental - Poplar Bluff is a key location within the extensive Missouri Highlands Health Care system, a non-profit organization that has been providing vital healthcare services to rural communities in Southeast Missouri for nearly 50 years. Founded in 1975 as Big Springs Medical Association with initial clinics in Van Buren, Ellington, and Eminence, the organization has grown significantly to address the primary and preventive health needs of residents in several counties, including Carter, Reynolds, Shannon, Iron, Ripley, Butler, and Wayne. The Poplar Bluff dental clinic, specifically located at 1407 N Westwood Blvd, is dedicated to offering a full spectrum of dental care. This includes essential preventative services such as regular cleanings and check-ups, as well as restorative care for issues like cavities or broken teeth. They cater to a wide age range, accepting patients from 6 months old and up, emphasizing gentle and friendly care to promote a lifetime of good oral health. A core tenet of Missouri Highlands Health Care is its commitment to accessibility and affordability. As a federally qualified health center, they serve all patients regardless of their ability to pay, accepting most insurances, Medicaid, and Medicare. They also offer a sliding fee scale based on household size and income for uninsured or underinsured patients, ensuring that financial barriers do not prevent individuals from receiving necessary care. Beyond its physical clinics, Missouri Highlands Health Care demonstrates a strong community focus through various programs, including a mobile dental unit that brings services directly to schools and other community settings, particularly for pediatric populations. The organization also integrates behavioral health services, offers nutritional counseling, and participates in community events like "Community Cares Day" to address broader social determinants of health. Their overarching mission is to ensure that rural healthcare remains robust and that no one in their service area is without access to quality, affordable medical and dental care.

I took my daughter here today, she's 4 year's old, very shy, and this was her first dentist visit. The 'nurse' I'm not sure what to refer to her as, she said her name was Holly, she was very persistent that neither my husband or myself go back with our daughter. When I said I would like to she took my daughter's hand and left me behind and walked off to the room, leaving me way behind. I tried talking to Holly and she ignored me, several times. At the end of my daughter's teeth cleaning she said I'm sure you noticed I was ignoring you but that's only because we want this to be all about the child.

So, she acknowledged she was ignoring me but did ask if I had questions at the end. Holly was VERY good with my daughter though! Dentist Alexander was great. I feel like Holly shouldn't have been so rude with me (ignoring me, she admitted this) and tell my husband he couldn't go back with our daughter, then try to tell me I couldn't. I was nothing but polite to every single worker there, I gave no reason for her to have started off acting the way she did at first. This almost drove us away from doing business here but I told my husband just drive me back and let me at least talk to them.

Other than Holly's lack of respect towards me until the end of the visit, it went fantastic and I do have another appointment in 6 months for my daughter and one for my son. I just feel like Holly could use more training or the dental office reconsider their rules of no parents allowed and to ignore the parent at first, if what she said was true. I would like to add, I live 50 miles away from this facility and didn't know any of the workers there, so it made it even more important to me that I seen where my daughter was getting dental care and how.

My daughter got a filling done Tuesday. Has complained about it hurting so bad and she cannot even eat on the other side of her mouth because the tooth she had filled is making her bite her other teeth.

They are making her wait until this following Tuesday which will be 7 days to see her because her dentist is out the rest of the week now because of labor day. Watching your daughter in pain and can barley eat anything at all is awful!! 😓 I'm a very mad mama right now! 😡

Can’t go back with your kids, you’ll have to wait in the waiting room. My 8 year old complained of his teeth hurting for days after his cleaning, when we were told there were no areas of concern. Parents should be able to at least sit in the room, & be included in their kids oral health. We have since then transferred to another dentist, best decision we made!
