Detailed Introduction

National Pike Health Center (NPHC) is a well-established community-based outpatient mental health clinic founded in 2001 by Johnson and Lola Owoyemi. With over two decades of experience, NPHC is dedicated to providing quality behavioral health counseling and psychiatric rehabilitation services to individuals and families across the lifespan. They have multiple locations in Maryland, including Baltimore (Catonsville), Westminster, and Dundalk. NPHC offers a wide range of services through its Outpatient Mental Health Clinic (OMHC) and Psychiatric Rehabilitation Program (PRP). The OMHC provides comprehensive evaluation and treatment for diverse mental health needs, including individual, group, and family therapy, as well as medication management. Their services address various issues such as depression, anxiety, grief and loss, stress management, family and relationship issues, and behavioral challenges in children and teens. A multidisciplinary team of mental health therapists, psychiatrists, and rehabilitation coordinators works collaboratively to provide holistic care. The Psychiatric Rehabilitation Program (PRP) focuses on assisting individuals living with mental illness to achieve greater independence by helping them access and coordinate community resources, develop self-care skills (e.g., personal hygiene, nutrition, medication management), improve social skills (e.g., interpersonal skills, stress management, communication), and gain independent living skills (e.g., maintaining housing, financial literacy, transportation). National Pike Health Center accepts various insurance plans, including Medicaid and Medicare, and may offer payment assistance or a sliding fee scale. They are committed to individualized treatment plans, with ongoing planning and review of each case from inception through discharge. The clinic also caters to specific populations, including veterans, active-duty military, military families, LGBTQ+ clients, seniors, adolescents, and those with co-occurring mental health and substance abuse disorders.

I don't care for the way the 1 therapist is with her patient's due to the fact that she tries to get her client's up there 4 times in 1 month I do not see any reason for that and I know for a fact that that is done too atleast 6 separate people it seems like that whole thing Is a Huge Insurance Scam.. but some ppl are really great there

This is the worst place you could ever go to for therapy. The counselors are undereducated about the field, they don't show for appointments regularly, are regularly late, counselors socialize and talk about the quality of your hair and clothes instead of giving actual therapy, the staff is rude and unprofessional. The receptionist and therapist talk about your personal information amongst themselves and in front of Clients too.

They joke around as if it's a beauty salon. Don't go here if you want good therapy.

I went here for talk therapy and medication management for a year. My therapist was Cheryl Lynn B. I saw on some of the other comments that people didn't like showing up once a week. I was glad I had that available to me. Not many places have that availability. Not only was I able to come that often, Cheryl also sat with me longer than our time on those especially hard days which were common. Also, I needed help outside of our scheduled meetings where I would leave texts to Cheryl and we'd go over them in our sessions along with a couple of times where I had terrible emotional breakdowns regarding school completely outside of therapy andCheryl talked with me until I calmed down. Not many places will do this. The staff here were all wonderful from the receptionist to the security guard. I did my intake with one of the PCP counselors who was very supportive and it was so obvious how much she genuinely cared. Everyone here empowered me more than any other therapists I had been to.

Before I started therapy with Cheryl I was given a diagnostic questionnaire that gave a scope of what I was dealing with. Throughout our talk therapy Cheryl built me up in areas I felt I had no power in. The center is in a neighborhood and an area that looks pretty sketchy but it looks worse than it really is. It was actually pretty relaxed and I never had any problems and also got some grocery shopping done at the shopping center nearby. I'm really grateful that I had this place to go to and the services that were available to me. The only things I'd say this place could work on was scheduling (I would get confused about the dates; if there was a change or rescheduling it would throw me off. Maybe some text/email reminders could help) and that there weren't any programs for groups or any kind of group therapy sessions. I can affirm that the people that work here seem like they really do care and if they don't they definitely do a good job of acting like it. I really wanted the help so the weekly visits were a godsend. I overcame a lot of things with this center and felt they deserved the recognition which is why I'm posting. There are so many other things Cheryl and other people here helped me with as well.

The waiting area is great and the best that I've ever seen at a therapy center; there's a large circle with plenty of comfortable couches and a large TV. Most of the time there were also snacks like candy and chips available. I felt safe there because the security guard showed up before it got dark. If I got any medication the staff at the desk was very helpful with the pharmacy nearby and they all worked well together so most of the time my medication was delivered to me while at the center instead of going to the pharmacy myself. If anyone reading this does want help, this place will definitely be there for you. There is also a PCP program that I never needed but it helps people with guidance on employment if you're looking for a job and I think they even assist with transportation like getting a ride with a counselor. After meeting Simone - who is the PCP counselor who did my intake - I wanted to do this because I felt spending more time with her could be beneficial as well (she's very supportive and empowering) but I didn't have the need for PCP so I didn't qualify. As the saying goes when it comes to therapy, "You have to really want to change. " If you really want the help, the people here will definitely be there to help you.
