I went for a new patient visit in December to get a basic exam, cleaning, and fluoride. Getting setup with the appointment was a breeze and was very easy. The issues started when I checked in. To start, they charge you a “new patient” fee of $130 up front without putting it in any of their paperwork they send you to fill out prior to your appointment. When asking what it’s for the explanation was “everyone’s insurance is different and we’re unsure what will be covered and what isn’t. ” Not unreasonable, but definitely strange as I’ve not had any kind of dentist, eye doctor, or regular doctor charge that much up front like that (this isn’t a typical copay). Very strange business practice and and annoying since they don’t tell you ahead of time. I explained that my insurance legitimately is very good as it’s through a union and asked what would happen when/if my insurance covered most if not all. They were very hesitant in answering that they’d give me a refund (which I’ve yet to receive). Move on to treatment and the hygienist was late and they swapped hygienists midway through. Each of the hygienists were really nice and good to talk to so no complaints about them personally, but they didn’t communicate with one another that I was getting a fluoride and tried to end the appointment without doing it.
Before leaving I then asked about the refund and to be kept updated because I found it very odd about the up front $130 charge without any notice beforehand. I was told that the claim would be sent out that day and I’d hear back within a couple days, that never happened. I’ve tried calling multiple times to discuss with them because I got my EOB and should definitely be getting a refund and the KY office never answers. Called the OH office and was told that the operations manager would be giving me a call today but that didn’t happen either. Hoping to get my refund soon and move on to a new dentist. Would love to find a reliable provider that doesn’t have hidden fees and poor communication. UPDATE AFTER OWNER RESPONSE: I’ll bite… First, the fee was not disclosed when scheduling over the phone or I would not have come to your office. I’ve never seen an office charge like that up front and would have pursued other care. Continuing on that, making a patient pay that fee before starting their treatment is not any kind of advanced notice, hence, a hidden fee. Second, this is now an entirely different explanation of what that charge was. Originally it was because you’re not sure what insurance providers will cover so you charge it up front, now based on your response it’s some sort of deal for an exam and X-rays.
Let’s dig into that. For the bite wing X-rays and the exam you billed insurance $215, so that doesn’t align with your response ($80 more than the deal you just promoted). For all potential clients, take note of the owner response and not addressing my issues and deflecting. This has been a deceitful transaction from the moment I checked in at the counter. For Pearce Dental, please send me the refund for the difference of what my insurance did not cover. I’m aware of the amount I would have owed out of pocket (as defined by my EOB I received) and the amount I paid up front. That is a difference of nearly $100. Make it right and be honest.

Everyone at this practice is friendly and outgoing. Dr. Pearce is very patient oriented and has the highest skill set of any dentist in the area. Highly recommended.

I have missed two years after going every 6 months for 55 years so i was apprehensive. I don't like change i went to Dr Maloney over by Grandview for 37 years until he retired.
The new owners were rude and stiff and unfriendly. Today i had best experience its so refreshing in these weird post Covid times to find a great caring business! Morgan at front desk, sam hygienist and Dr Pearce were all awesome so friendly and funny and professional i cant recommend them enough!
