Penn Dental Schattner Center

The Penn Dental Schattner Center is a prominent building and a vital component of the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine. The center is named in honor of Dr. Robert Schattner, a distinguished alumnus, inventor of Chloraseptic, and a generous benefactor whose gift played a significant role in funding its construction. Dedicated in 2002, the Robert Schattner Center serves as the main entrance to the dental school campus, unifying its three main buildings: the historic Thomas W. Evans Building and the Leon Levy Center for oral health Research. As a part of an Ivy League university's dental school, the Schattner Center operates as a comprehensive clinic. It is a teaching facility where dental students, under the guidance of experienced faculty, provide a full spectrum of dental care. This includes general dentistry as well as specialized services such as oral surgery, orthodontics, periodontics, prosthodontics, and pediatric dentistry. The center is equipped with state-of-the-art technology, including digital dentistry tools like intraoral scanners and computer-aided design (CAD)/computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) technology for creating restorations. The Schattner Center is also a hub for patient care, particularly through its Oral Surgery Clinic and an emergency clinic. The facility also houses the Robert I. Schattner Clinic, formerly the Main Clinic, which focuses on general restorative dentistry. In addition to its clinical functions, the center is a modern and welcoming space for students, staff, and patients, featuring a pavilion and a comfortable gathering area that opens onto the Fonseca Gardens courtyard.
