IF THE CROWNS ON YOUR IMPLANTS FAIL …I HOPE THAT YOU'LL FIND THIS REVIEW FOR DR. DEEPALI JERE AT SEATTLE ORAL CARE I'm really grateful. In 2010, a Seattle prosthodontist installed implants for two teeth in my upper jaw. My regular dentist attached the crowns. When the crowns for both teeth cracked in 2024, each dental practice had been closed for more than seven years. I had no record of my implants’ size, manufacturer, and platform. It was important to know my implants’ platform because some crowns screw in and others are cemented on. I spoke with a couple of oral surgeons who had no idea how to obtain this information.

The implants embedded in my jaw were still healthy, but only a fragment of each crown remained. I needed to find a prosthodontist who could: 1) Remove the crown on each implant to learn how it mated with the implant. 2) Use this information to identify the “make and model” of my implants. 3) Order replacement parts. 4) Make impressions of the implants, register my bite, and cast new crowns which fit together exactly with the teeth in my lower jaw when I bite down. 5) Send me home with new crowns and a record of my implants’ size, manufacturer, and platform. The original crowns were glued in, but Dr. Jere designed my new crowns so that they could be easily detached (unscrewed) if there is a problem to address in the future.

My implants are not commonly used in this part of the United States. I was very fortunate to find Dr. Jere. I would characterize the work she did as part “implant detective and part engineer”. She also worked with a veteran lab technician to create custom-made crowns which match my tooth color and tooth transparency.
