Detailed Introduction

The Sleep disorders dentistry Clinic, founded and led by Dr. John Viviano, is a specialized dental clinic located in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada, focusing exclusively on the management of sleep-disordered breathing, including snoring and Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), and sleep-related bruxism (teeth grinding). Dr. Viviano obtained his credentials from the University of Toronto in 1983 and has dedicated his practice to this critical area of dental medicine since 1997. The clinic holds the distinction of being the first Canadian facility to be accredited by the American Academy of Dental sleep medicine (AADSM), signifying its commitment to evidence-based practices and high standards of care. Dr. Viviano himself is a Credentialed Diplomate of the American Board of Dental Sleep Medicine, underscoring his expertise and leadership in the field. The primary treatment modality offered at the clinic is Oral appliance therapy (OAT). These custom-fit dental devices are worn during sleep to gently reposition the jaw and/or tongue, thereby maintaining an open airway and preventing the collapses that lead to snoring and sleep apnea events. OAT provides a comfortable, non-invasive, and portable alternative for many patients, especially those with mild to moderate sleep apnea or those who cannot tolerate CPAP machines. The clinic works in close collaboration with physicians to ensure integrated and comprehensive patient care. Beyond patient care, the Sleep Disorders Dentistry Clinic is also a hub for education and research. Dr. Viviano is the Clinical Director of the Sleep Disorders Dentistry Research and Learning Centre and is a respected international lecturer. He conducts continuing education (CE) programs for various levels of experience, including a comprehensive Implementation Mini Residency, and hosts online discussion groups and learning platforms such as the zSleepClub Study Club and SDDacademy.com. His contributions to the field include original research and authored articles on the management of sleep-disordered breathing. Patients seeking treatment at the clinic undergo thorough evaluations, which may include home sleep testing, to ensure optimal calibration of their oral appliances. The clinic emphasizes patient education, helping individuals understand their condition and the benefits of treatment for their overall health and quality of life.

Very professional, pleasant and patient. My old appliance had lost its integrity and needed to be replaced. I had a combination of allergies and sinus issues that he was able to overcome even though I am still waiting to see an ENT 18 months later.

I've been seeing Dr. Viviano for over 8 years for my sleep apnea appliance. The first appliance that I had lasted for 7 years! The average lifespan of these things are usually 3-5 years. Callie (office manager) is super friendly and was able to schedule me in asap when my appliance broke and was accomodating when I got to the office with 2 kids under 2 (she helped watch them for me when I saw Dr. Viviano). Dr.

Viviano was originally my dentist, but he retired from that to focus on the sleep disorders. He was thorough in explaining what the new appliances are like, how to maintain it, etc. Since I've been wearing the oral appliance to treat my sleep apnea for the last 7 years, I knew exactly what to expect. When I had the moulds prepared, the technician had to do it over 5 times for my lower teeth as Dr. Viviano wanted nothing short of perfect (other doctors would probably send the first mould to the lab). The appliance came in within 2 weeks (Callie put in a rush order for me because she knew how important the sleep appliance is to me for getting a good night's sleep).

There was a follow up appointment a few weeks later where I then took home a sleep monitor to track effective the new appliance is (and whether I was getting enough oxygen while I slept). A few nights later, I brought the sleep monitor back to the office, they downloaded the results and Dr. Viviano gave me the ok to continue using the appliance (no further adjustments were needed). If you're in need of a sleep apnea oral appliance, come here! Callie put together a thorough payment package for me (included doctor's notes and prescriptions, sleep test results, etc) and I had no issues with getting money back from my benefit insurance company.

DO NOT do this without doing your research. Get a second opinion before getting a dental sleep apnea appliance. I wore an appliance from Dr. Viviano for approx 10 years and ultimately it did nothing but really mess up my teeth (I developed a major underbite and was recommended to get braces to fix it).

It was also not covered by my insurance at the time. I eventually ended up using a CPAP which was what I needed all along.

I was recommended to come here for my sleep apnea. Dr. Viviano was great to deal with and the staff here are very friendly.

The mouth guard I am using for sleep apnea works fantastic, it gives me a great night sleep without having to wear a cpap mask. When you are travelling, it is a lot easier to carry around a small container for your mouth guard then to carry around the cpap machine, and it doesn’t make any noise for your partner to listen to. I can’t recommend them enough!
