I absolutely love this office from top to bottom! The front desk staff, the dental techs/assistants, the dentists, but most of all my hygienist Angie. I'm terrified of teeth cleanings and she made it a very calming, thorough, pain-free experience. I would definitely recommend South Sound!

This business just recently changed ownership and names. It was Affordable Dental and is now doing business as South Sound Dental. I have been a patient since the place was opened as Affordable Dental and enjoyed excellent service from Dr Klade who recently retired. Now there's a new Indian Dr/Owner and she cares nothing about the patient and only about how much money she can suck out of the patient.

The front counter women are rude and discourteous and often times dictate the care treatment instead of the Dentist. One day I witnessed 6 people walk out of the lobby in disgust. I will never return to this place even after 30 pervious years as this owner doesn't deserve the clients she serves. I would highly suggest that this place be avoided at all costs!

Steer clear of this place! There are certainly better options for dental care that can focus on you as a patient and not the dollars in your wallet. As a physician myself, I know what it means to put the patient first, and that is not what happens here. I was seen for a root canal back in February and was told at the time it would be a difficult one. Not knowing any better to inquire about the appropriateness of a referral to a specialist, I decided to proceed as scheduled. Recently the same tooth began hurting again. South Sound was not able to get me a visit despite the pain I was in (which I understood, things are busy) so I was left with no choice but to seek a self referral for "emergent" endodontic care. (Shameless plug for Pla and Watts - they are 100% so amazing!).

Turns out my dentist completely missed one of my roots during the root canal leaving a lingering infection behind that now required a CT scan and same day re-do root canal. I was also told this is not the first time this endodontics office has seen a similar situation from South South Dental. While disappointed, I did understand that things like this do sometimes happen. I phoned the clinic to inquire what they may be able to do to help offset the cost of now paying a total of $3000 out of pocket between the two clinics for two root canals that should have only been one. Today I received a call back that they would refund half of my out of pocket expenses for only the root canal portion of my fist visit (my total out out pocket was $1,001. 00 for the entire root canal/crown/etc). I was told they would not factor in the cost for any of the crown and build up.

So they were only going to refund me $73. That feels like a slap in the face. Tell me, if you performed an incomplete treatment and your patient had to pay and extra $2000 after insurance max out, wouldn't you feel more inclined than to refund them just $73? Especially when they attempted to make an appointment with you when things started hurting again but they weren't able to squeeze you in? At the least they could have refunded me half of my total out of pocket expenses OR told me my case was too complicated and necessitated an endodontics referral upfront. Switching my dental care for sure, and another reminder of how you shouldn't treat patients. Extremely disappointing.

I have been going to South Sound Dental for so many years I can't even remember when I started. Dr Khan, the hygienists, and the office staff are amazing. They are very friendly and truly care about their patients.

They have always worked with me to schedule my appointments when it works best for me and have even stayed late to help me with emergencies. I highly recommend if you are looking for a dentist in the Tacoma area that you give them a try.
