Detailed Introduction

Southeastern Virginia Health System (SEVHS) is a well-established non-profit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to providing high-quality, comprehensive, and affordable healthcare services to the communities of Hampton Roads, Virginia. Operating for over 40 years, SEVHS has grown to include twelve (or fifteen, sources vary slightly on the exact number) community health centers located throughout Newport News, Hampton, Chesapeake, Suffolk, Virginia Beach, Mathews County, and Franklin. SEVHS serves a diverse patient population, including those who are insured, uninsured, and underinsured, making healthcare accessible to individuals and families who might otherwise face obstacles to care. Their services encompass a wide range of primary care needs, including family practice, internal medicine, pediatrics, and obstetrics/gynecology. Beyond general medical care, SEVHS also offers crucial services such as dental care, mental health services (addressing issues like depression, anxiety, grief, and substance use), laboratory services, and televisits for convenient remote consultations. A core aspect of SEVHS's mission is preventative wellness and health education. They provide various support services, including health education and nutrition counseling, case management, referrals to specialty care, and medication assistance. As a federally qualified Community health center (FQHC), SEVHS operates on a sliding fee scale, which adjusts payment for services based on household income and family size, further enhancing affordability. SEVHS is committed to patient-centered care, aiming to be a "healthcare home base" for its patients. They are accredited by The Joint Commission, an independent national body that oversees healthcare safety and quality. Their historical roots trace back to 1977, when it began as the East End Health Services Delivery Project, later becoming the Peninsula Institute for Community Health (PICH) before adopting the name Southeastern Virginia Health System in 2013 to better reflect its expanded service area. The system serves over 25,000 patients annually and is a member of the National Association of Community Health Centers (NACHC) and the Virginia Community Healthcare Association (VACHA).

Dr Jones is Amazing. She put me on proper medication for siezures. She is wonderful and smart. I feel like myself again, and I have my life back. I had a rough year in regards to health. She took care of me. Every nurse has been good and kind. The office people are hit and miss. They are probably over worked so I don't really care.

The dental place took me in with the most you can pay on the scale, $75, and then sent me another bill for $85. They never told me there would be other charges. They took the xrays, looked at my teeth and sent me home with some phone numbers to call for additional services.

They did nothing else to my teeth. My tooth needed to be extracted the doctor said he was understaffed but there was only one person when I went in.

I went for an woman's annual exam for the first time at the Marshall location and ended up speaking with the office manager at this admin office on 28th St. This is what I encountered: I had an issue with my bill and called about the discrepancy as it was supposed to be billed to my insurance instead of directly to me. Everytime I called to get the bill resolved I encountered horrible customer service representatives, managers and workers who were extremely rude, unprofessional or who would transfer me all over the place. It took me forever to get a hold of one of the managers and she stated that she would finally try and take care of the bill for me and resolve the mistake and discrepancy.

She told me to call her back in a week or two to check the status and every time I would call to reach her I was given the run around or put on hold forever or treated horribly by clinic staff. I also had to reexplain or get the same people who kept playing games with me on the phone and had to feel embarrassed sharing my personal medical information with them who wouldn't transfer me unless I explained to them why I was calling in the first place or asking to speak to the manager. I also contacted the admin office and asked to speak to the manager over there and she was absolutely disrespectful, didn't care, empathize or listen to a word I said and tried to rush me off the phone even though I was not rude or irate to her. When I complained to her about her staff and all the hassles and stress I encountered trying to get my billing situated and the horrible reps that worked there, she defended their behavior and cared nothing about me as a patient/customer, I was almost moved to tears at how she talked to me and minimized my feelings in the process, not to mention it was on or around my birthday when I spoke to her over the phone and I was already sick and in and out hospital for various things.

I feel this clinic and admin office should be shut down or seriously investigated and reprimanded for neglecting, disrespecting, and failing to be professional and educated, as well as failing to care or follow-up properly with patients and their needs and concerns. The way I was treated is beyond words and I am truly disgusted and will never return to this clinic again. I have also noticed how they deal with other patients rudely and unprofessionally and it is entirely unfounded and unacceptable and they need to fire those who don't care and aren't doing their job and hire some who have some class, concern and professionalism.

First time dental patient. Security guard was curt. Lady with the paperwork was very kind! Dental nurse was very kind! The dentist seemed to get mad when I asked questions so that I understood the diagnosis. Bathroom was too dirty to use. I do recommend. But it's better to ask questions to the nurse than the dentist. She was so very helpful and nice!!
