My recent visit to Southern Roots was a very pleasant experience, as always. Lanie is a great hygienist. She is very thorough and professional. Always enjoy talking with her as well. Dr. Rowe is first class. He and I share some same interests and it is always nice to compare notes. He is very thorough in his exam and I would highly recommend anyone needing periodontal care to chose Southern Roots.

DAMN GOOD PERIODONTIST I’ve been under the care of periodontists for over 25 years across multiple states. I am extremely particular about both my medical and dental care teams. When I relocated to Columbia over three years ago due to my job, finding the right periodontal specialist quickly became a top priority. I thoroughly researched periodontal providers in the area—reading reviews, examining academic credentials, checking for any board actions, and even calling several offices just to get a feel for how they answered the phones. For me, the patient experience doesn’t begin in the chair—it begins the moment you contact the office. I take my care seriously and believe in doing my due diligence. I even went on a “test drive” with another periodontist—and after just one visit, I promptly fired him. Then I found Dr. Rowe—on whom also i throughly vetted--and I’m truly thankful I am under his care. Dr. Rowe is the most exceptional periodontist I’ve ever had. What sets him apart is a balance of clinical excellence, evidence-based practice, and genuine, compassionate personal care—something that’s rare.

He listens to his patients, explains procedures clearly, and walks you through your X-rays and treatment plan step-by-step. He gives you the facts while respecting your ability to make informed decisions, and he truly honors the patient’s right to self-determination. Make no mistake—Dr. Rowe doesn’t sugarcoat the work that needs to be done or the risks of delaying treatment. But he delivers that information in a skillful, compassionate way that builds trust and confidence. Recently, I was in a lot of oral pain due to a procedure I had kept putting off. I scheduled an urgent visit with my general dentist, who determined it was a periodontal matter and immediately contacted Dr. Rowe. The level of collaboration and care was simply outstanding. Dr. Rowe arranged for same-day periodontal surgery and provided treatment with a level of attentiveness, calm, and expertise that was both reassuring and deeply appreciated. The surgery was successful.

Lainey, his hygienist, is in a league of her own—she belongs in the Dental Hygienist Hall of Fame. She knows her stuff. Her clinical expertise is top-notch, but what truly sets her apart is her gentle touch. She has a gentle touch when working on your teeth—just the right balance—without all the poking and prodding that makes you tense up or feel like you’re going to be in pain. She knows how to talk to patients, how to put you at ease, and how to make the experience feel comfortable. It's a skill honed through years of experience and genuine compassion. The rest of the office reflects the same high standard of excellence. From the front desk to the dental assistants to the office manager, every team member is professional, kind, and focused on providing the best possible patient experience. As someone who moved to a new city without knowing anyone, finding a periodontal team like this has been a true blessing. I’ve now been under Dr. Rowe’s care for over three years, and I couldn't be more confident in the hands I’m in.

I highly recommend Southern Roots. The staff are always pleasant and Elaine is a superb hygienist. Alway pleasant and easy to talk to and she is very professional and thorough in her work. Dr Rowe always strives to achieve the best outcome for his patients. Great organization.

We recently had our now 7 month old assessed which led to her lip and tongue ties being revised. From start to finish( 6 week process) we have had such a wonderful experience with Dr Rowe and his team. This isn't just a come and go appointment but rather a supportive team approach office. You will be greeted with genuine support, wisdom and knowledge and after hours support.

The fact that you can text and reach your doctor is unheard of these days. I won't sugar coat it, this is not an easy procedure for any parent but they reassured and supported us at every point in the process. Do not hesitate to come here even if the distance is longer, it is worth every minute of the drive! My only wish is that she was seen sooner but thankfully all is and went well!
