After 3 years we decided to leave my daughters previous orthodontist to start her orthodontic care at Specialists in Orthodontics and we are so happy we did. Our previous orthodontist recommended we correct my daughters overbite by removing two of my daughters healthy, adult teeth in order to make room for her front teeth to then be shunted back in line with the rest. This didn't seem logical or right to me especially as my daughters roof of her mouth was very narrow and her tongue didn't have room to fully fit. Why not use an expander to widen everything out and make space and then pull the teeth back if needed? While this was another option given to us by our first orthodontist, the one that he recommended was the removal of her teeth and then braces. I mulled over it for several weeks and did some reading but the thought of removing perfectly healthy teeth just didn't sit right with me.

Plus it wouldn't correct the underlying problem of her narrow arch. I decided to get a second opinion with Specialist Orthodontics to see if I would get the same recommendation and if I did then I must be over thinking things. After all, I haven't gone to school for dentistry or orthodontics so really, what do I know? Dr Sheehan told us my daughter was a candidate for both options but she agreed that using an expander might be the better choice of the two, even if it meant a longer treatment time. She took her time to explain everything in detail, ask questions reagarding my daughters habits/lifestyle/health history relating to her teeth (something we have never been asked in all the visits we'd made to our first orthodontist over the three years), and she listen to all my concerns and answered all the questions I had. My daughter and I felt a lot more confident in Dr Sheehan and we decided to that she was a better fit for my daughters orthodontic treatment.

Even thought my daughter is still in the beginning stages of her treatment (expander fitted, arch has been widened, braces fitted two days ago) we are still very happy with how everything is going. I am so glad I listened to my gut and sought a second opinion. I definitely recommend Dr Sheehan to anyone who needs orthodontic care.

Fabulous practice! They explain things in detail, give treatment options and payment plans, and are able to get you in quickly for emergencies like broken brackets. Both my kids had braces and now I have Invisalign so we've been coming here for almost 10 years combined and they are unfailingly cheerful and friendly.
