Detailed Introduction

The Stony Brook School of Dental Medicine, located in Stony Brook, NY, operates a clinical arm known as the dental care Center. This center functions as a teaching clinic where dental students and residents provide a wide range of dental services under the direct supervision of nationally and internationally recognized faculty experts. It is the largest provider of oral health care on Long Island, offering a full spectrum of dental specialties in a single location. The clinic's services encompass general dentistry, which includes comprehensive and routine care like cleanings, fillings, and extractions. They also provide specialized treatments in fields such as dental anesthesiology for patients with dental phobia, endodontics for root canal treatments, periodontics for gum disease and implantology, orthodontics for teeth alignment and dentofacial orthopedics, and oral and maxillofacial pathology for the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the mouth, jaws, and face. The Dental Care Center emphasizes providing high-quality, evidence-based care in a humanistic environment. A key advantage for patients is that the fees for services are typically significantly more affordable compared to a private practice, though the treatment time may be longer due to the nature of it being a teaching clinic. The clinic is also affiliated with major regional hospitals, including Stony Brook University Hospital, allowing students and residents to gain experience in a comprehensive healthcare setting.

If I could give them a 0 I would. Started there April 2024 to have a partial lower denture made. It is now the end of May 2025. It is still not right. Yes, they tried but they had no clue what to do. The first dentist I saw filled a couple of cavities.

Well, I just had them refilled by a ‘real’ dentist. They couldn’t even get that right. Spend a couple of extra bucks & go to a real dentist with a real practice. I could go on but I think you get the point.

Make u come earlier than apt. Make u wait an hr before someone comes in. No knowledge. Than proceed to say they cant do anything today because their machines r down after me taking off of work and being promised to get my tooth worked on. Severe pain now for weeks. This place is useless would not recommend. Than he tells me he needs to drill my tooth! What a welcoming way to greet me after an hour

I heard this is reasonable dental care... I'm on Social security can't afford going to the dentist because of the costs of keeping my home. After the phone call I found out just the beginning fees are as much as any local dentist. Only good to go if you are on welfare and medicaid. Of course paid by my tax dollars. NYS sucks!

I would give them a 0 if possible based on the conversation I just had with a woman trying to make an appointment for my son. She was returning my call on which I left a detailed message. Fine, I had to explain the situation again, no big deal.

From there she was just downright rude, completely unhelpful and no way to talk to someone. She was nasty asking me what I needed, nasty asking me what insurance I have (they don't take my primary), nasty telling me that I'd have to call someone else to see about the secondary insurance and then lastly, nasty when she said to me "you do realize this is a school right?". Well you never told me that, and the number I was given by my dentist and called was for the hospital, so no, I didn't know this was a school.

I would never bring anyone there and would steer anyone thinking about going there away. The front desk is what sets the atmosphere for an office and if this is what you have to deal with, I don't even care to see what their dentists are like.
