DO NOT GO HERE, coming from a dental hygiene student! I walk in, tell them my name and they collect my insurance and drivers license. They tell me "we'll just take you back now and you can fill out the health history form afterwards". I was thinking in my head, that is completely unacceptable but I am aware of what is going to be done and I have no health issues, medications, etc so I was like okay. The "hygienist" took me to the X-ray room to take a PAN (big machine that goes around your head), she picks up the lead apron and I said "I don't need that today" and she said "yes you do, we have to follow the policy". As I'm laughing inside my head to her response and knowing that recent scientific evidence shows that you do not need to use a lead apron anymore since the amount of radiation penetrating your body is small, it doesn't do much harm at all. Then she has me step up to the PAN machine and tells me to bite down on the bite stick, no other directions at all. So I did her a favor and put my tongue to the roof of my mouth and swallowed to get the most accurate radiograph possible, since that is the direction the dental hygienist is suppose to give the patient. We then go into the dental room and she takes 4 bite wings and 2 periapical xrays. I looked at them on the computer screen and they were literal garbage.

She then puts the dental bib on me and says she’s going to start the cleaning. I ask “are you going to be using hand instruments or the ultrasonic (electric instrument) and she didn’t even answer, it was like she had no idea what they were even called and she just pointed to what she was going to use. She began using the ultrasonic, first off the tip that she used was not correct for the condition of my teeth, it was too big. I thought “alright if it hurts I’ll stop her”. I let her proceed because I knew it wasn't going to be inserted under my gums anyway. So she “cleaned” my teeth for literally 3-5 minutes, did not clean under my gums where calculus can occur, she simply just placed the instrument in between my teeth as if you were using a toothpick to get something out. She did not use any proper technique at all. She then flossed my teeth again using improper technique, which also didn’t clean my teeth. She then went in with one out of three hand instruments, which she again did not go under my gums and just plucked in between my teeth.

Anyways, then the dentist comes in and I asked him “how comes your office does not take periodontal probe readings to determine if your patients have periodontal disease”. He goes “well our software does it on the x-rays”. WHAAA. That’s just insane. I then asked him “how are you going to see if I have cavities in between my teeth on these x-rays” you know since they were trashh. He then looks in my mouth and says I have like 3 very small cavities on the top (occlusal) part of my teeth & told me I can get scheduled for next month. Ummm yeah buddy, jokes on you, there’s no way in heck that I’m coming back here and allowing you to drill in my teeth!! & I bet that “hygienist” wasn’t even a registered hygienist, probably an assistant that they “trained”.

I just came back home from a 5 day stay in the hospital. I am not good with dentist from having horrid experiences from childhood and on. It had been a very long time and I noticed a bit of swelling on one spot in my gums, even though there was no pain i decided to make an appointment right away. I went to this place for the first time and it seemed ok and for the most part everyone was quite nice and attentive. Minus the dental hygienist, she was quite rude, first with the initial xray she kept pushing and pulling quite roughly. I explained to her to please give me a moment to adjust, (i have a very noticeable limp on my right leg from another condition that has caused permanent damage to my hip and nerves). Would barely let me get a word in and the few times I was able too she was quite dismissive and rude. At the chair, she started the cleaning and she was quite rough and complained through the whole thing.

When the dentist came in finally, every time he tried to talk to me and take a look at what could be going on she would interrupt and tell him it was nothing and at one point she even said that I would not be having any issue if I would just come get a cleaning more regularly. Fast-forward, I go to my second appointment I was supposed to get a simple extraction of a baby tooth that actually sprung up years ago left over, but I was actually on severe pain on that same side where I was originally noting seeing some puffiness on the gum and I actually hadn’t been able to eat or drink anything or sleep for about three days. , They do another x-ray and they tell me that I apparently had a very bad sinus infection and it was making pressure on my gums. I was given a course of an anabiotic’s and a special mouthwash, and I was supposed to use all of that till it was done. I did exactly that and exactly 2 weeks after the course of medication and the mouthwash I noticed days ago that my face on that side was looking a bit puffy, but I had no pain so I just took some Tylenol made sure to look at my gum to make sure it looked OK which you did at the moment and went to bed and when I woke up the next day That whole side of my face was so swollen. I looked disfigured so I had to run to the emergency room. Of course over there, they panicked as soon as they did the x-rays immediately was put on extremely heavy duty, antibiotics and anti-inflammatories because whatever infection it was, even if it came from my gums, it had actually gone into the rest of my face. I had to be transferred to another hospital an hour away for different specialists.

I was there for days until they could figure out exactly what the problem was, and being given every type of pain medication and antibiotic that you can think of. When the dental specialist we’re finally called in after everything else was ruled out I was told I had a huge abscess between the gum line and sinus cavity, and that I was very lucky that I went to the hospital when I did because another day I could’ve possibly gone septic. So according to the specialist, this was all due to the cleaning And them not paying attention to the fact that I had told them that I was noticing some puffiness on that side of my gum to begin with, when the cleaning was done, the hygienist was extremely rough, and some cuts were made along my gum in that area, where there was already a bit of bacteria, and it went in, the little bit of antibiotics I had been prescribed before just masked it a little bit. It was cut into immediately to start drainage, and I wouldn’t wish it on anyone. It was the most excruciatingly painful situation I’ve ever had to go through. So This will happen because of our dental hygienist on a high horse. It’s needless to say that i will not be returning to this place after this

LOVE MY DENTIST!! Dr. Barksdale is so sweet and SO good at dentistry! His staff is incredible as well. Especially Tia :) People just don't like the dentist, so take the negative reviews with a large grain of salt. I've never had a bad experience here. Other than when MY insurance denied my claim.

Not the dentists fault, AND they did everything in their power to help me. Love u guys. Thanks for helping me get my smile back!!! Best thing I've ever done, and it's all due to william penn dental. Also, I had a partial done here 4 years ago, and the thing is still in great shape. Worked so wonderfully, I'm back for a full! :) will update with a pic when I get them back!
