Dr. Karlin provides the best, highest quality orthodontic treatment to children, teenagers, and adults in a gentle, caring manner. Dr. Karlin was born in the Bronx, New York, where he lived until the age of five and got his street smarts. He spent most of his childhood in Plainview, Long Island. At the age of 12, his family's orthodontist inspired him to pursue a career in orthodontics. He obtained his undergraduate degree in biology at Cornell University, from which he graduated in the top one percent of his class. He later attended the New York University College of Dentistry on a full academic scholarship, during which time he met his wonderful wife, Dana. After graduating from dental school, Dr. Karlin moved to New Jersey just like Dana, born and raised in New Jersey, asked him to! After graduating as valedictorian from dental school, Dr. Karlin continued his education at NYU and obtained his certificate in orthodontics. In 2004, Dr. Karlin obtained his board certification in orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics, a distinction held by only a small percentage of all practicing orthodontists today. He has the added honor of being a member of the College of Diplomates of the American Board of Orthodontics. He is repeatedly named as one of the top orthodontists in the nation by the Consumer's Research Council of America. In addition, he is continually featured in New Jersey Monthly Magazine as one of New Jersey's top orthodontists, as selected by his colleagues in the dental profession. He is also an active member of the American Dental Association and the American Association of Orthodontists. Dr. Karlin has completed an orthodontic externship at the Montefiore Medical Center and Albert Einstein College of Medicine, and his research has been published in the Journal of Dental Research. He is currently the Chief of Orthodontics at the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, where he has worked with the entire dental team to bring the highest quality of care to patients. He has also provided instruction to the dental residents in orthodontic diagnosis, treatment planning, and comprehensive care for both adolescents and adults. Dr. Karlin is at the forefont of contemporary orthodontics, having been one of the first to be certified in removable appliance treatment methods, such as Invisalign. He has been repeatedly awarded the distinction of Invisalign Premier Provider, putting him in the top 5% of all Invisalign practitioners in the nation. He has personally designed and developed revolutionary orthodontic appliances and holds a patent for magnetic orthodontic systems. Dr. Karlin uses his academic, teaching, and clinical background in order to bring the latest and most advanced technologies to his patients in order to ensure that they receive the highest quality of orthodontic treatment in a comfortable and timely manner. Above all, he is extremely approachable, and he always makes time for both patients and parents in order to answer questions, address concerns, and provide guidance to ensure successful treatment outcomes. Dr. Karlin is very involved in local communities. He sponsors numerous sports teams in baseball, gymnastics, volleyball, swimming, basketball, and cheerleading, just to name a few.
