About
Dr. Leonardo "Leo" Koerich, DDS is a general dentist with practice limited to orthodontics in Indian Trail, NC. He obtained his DDS from Federal University of Santa Catarina (Brazil) followed by a Research Fellowship in orthodontics at the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill. He then completed his orthodontics residency at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) and obtained a second DDS from Virginia Commonwealth University. A prolific author, he has published more than 20 scientific papers in the most respected orthodontic/dental journals in the world including the American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics, The Angle Orthodontist, The International Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Orthodontics and Craniofacial Research and others. He has authored a book chapter in an orthodontic text book and has will be an author in two other text books that are currently under editing. His expertise in the field has led to the invitation to become a reviewer for several different scientific journals and to speak in different places, including the American Association of Orthodontists annual meeting, the Moyer's Pre-Symposium and several universities in the United States and overseas. In 2012, he was one of the youngest people to ever receive the Helen B. and F. Dewel award, from the American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics, one of the most prestigious awards in the orthodontic field. This award goes to the best clinical research of the year. He also received awards from the American Association of Orthodontics and American Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology for his academic performance, and from the American Association for Dental Research for his innovative research ideas. He graduated at the top of his class and has been inducted to the prestigious Omicron Kappa Upsilon Dental Honor Society. In his spare time, Dr. Leo enjoys spending time with his family. He is married to Dr. Lindsey Koerich, and they have two young children, Annelise and Luca. You can also find him teaching his kids how to play soccer, eating at the Brazilian bakery or cooking an authentic Brazilian barbeque.
