Extremely friendly greeting when you reach the front desk. Test messages were helpful. Very detailed oriented and explained each step prior to doing it. Next appointment was setup prior to me leaving. Would highly recommend Cottingham Dentistry

Was the greatest dental experience that I have ever had. Friendly, gentle and professional. Made me feel comfortable and explained all that was being done and why. The whole experience was a total delight and the staff are all wonderful. I hope to spend many years in their dental chair for all of my dental needs.

I wasn’t originally planning to leave a review because I didn’t want to waste my time on a business that gaslights its clients. But after reading another review from a woman who also had her concerns dismissed, followed by a letter telling her not to return, I felt compelled to share my experience. It makes me wonder how many others this has happened to that just didn’t say anything. I came to this office because it looked clean, newly renovated, and seemed like one of the nicer options in the area. I’m from out of state, and the health standards here feel very different, so I was skeptical, but hopeful. At first, everything felt great! The space was clean, and the staff was friendly and welcoming. I’ve had a lot of dental work in my life, so I’m familiar with what good care should look and feel like. I needed a root canal (which I had done by Central Carolina Endodontics, amazing, by the way!) followed by a crown and two fillings. This office offered to make the crown in-house, which I thought was convenient. But the crown I received was disappointing, it didn’t feel like a real tooth at all. It feels like a tiny nub, and it cost me $1,300. I’ve had far better, more natural-feeling crowns done elsewhere for less. After the fillings, my teeth hurt more than they did before. I returned to the office concerned, and that’s when things started to fall apart.
The dentist dismissed my pain, telling me that’s just “how fillings are. ” That’s simply not true! I’ve had many, and I’ve never experienced lingering pain like this. I calmly explained this and asked if he may have accidentally nicked a neighboring tooth while polishing (because I felt it happen, on both teeth). He became defensive and insisted it was impossible, even saying, I have a mouth full of fillings and my teeth always hurt. I left the office in tears because I felt completely dismissed and confused by how I was being treated. He told me I needed to start using fluoride and Listerine, and when I mentioned I can’t use either due to reactions, he seemed annoyed and just left the room without saying goodbye. It felt like he didn’t have the time of day for me. The nurse stayed behind and kept apologizing to me, which honestly said a lot. To make matters worse, during the previous visit, I was already feeling anxious and asked the dentist to confirm that the numbing shot didn’t contain epinephrine because I’m severely allergic to it. He acted annoyed when I asked, which made me incredibly uncomfortable, considering it’s a serious health concern. A few days after that final appointment, I received a letter in the mail stating that the dentist didn’t think we were a good fit and that I shouldn’t return to the office. They said they’d see me for 30 days only if I had an emergency while I searched for a new provider. The letter felt like a passive-aggressive way of dodging accountability. 🤮 Honestly, it was almost comical.
He could’ve just told me that in person. But based on how fast I received the letter, I doubt I’m the only one it’s happened to. What a shame. They also strongly prefer that you pay before your appointment(not mandatory) kind of strange and unprofessional. Why would any business ask for full payment in advance before providing care? It gives the impression they’re more focused on getting paid than ensuring patients are actually satisfied with their work. All in all, I spent a significant amount of money, time driving an hour back & forth and walked away still in pain. The crown I got was so uncomfortable that I went back to my endodontist, thinking I had an infection & might need another root canal. Turns out, the $1,300 crown was simply sitting too high and had bruised the area. She shaved it down, and I’ve been pain-free ever since. But the fillings? Still hurt months later. This was a deeply disappointing experience. I would never trust this dentist with my children or anyone, really. If you’re looking for quality care and a provider who actually listens to you, I strongly recommend looking elsewhere. Please! 🙏🏼
