Detailed Introduction

DentalWorks Louisville is a dental clinic situated at 1815 Bardstown Rd, Louisville, KY 40205. As part of the larger DentalWorks network, it operates as a multi-location dental practice, falling under the "clinic" type rather than an individual private practice. This means it benefits from shared administrative and management tasks, potentially leading to more streamlined operations and access to broader resources and technology. The clinic is dedicated to providing comprehensive dental care, aiming to make dental health accessible and convenient for families. Their services encompass a wide spectrum of dental needs, including: General Dentistry: This includes routine exams, cleanings, and preventive treatments. Orthodontics: They offer solutions for teeth straightening, including traditional braces and clear aligners like Invisalign. Cosmetic Dentistry: Services such as teeth whitening, bonding, and veneers are available to enhance smiles. Oral Surgery: They perform procedures like simple and wisdom tooth extractions, and bone grafting. Prosthodontics: This covers dental crowns, partial and full dentures, and dental implants. Restorative Dentistry: They provide amalgam and composite fillings, as well as inlay/onlay restorations. Pediatric Dentistry: The clinic offers gentle and caring services for children, including dental sealants, custom sports mouthguards, fluoride treatments, and space maintainers. DentalWorks Louisville emphasizes a patient-centric approach, striving to create a comfortable and welcoming environment. They are equipped with modern dental technologies to ensure comfortable and effective treatments. The clinic aims for convenient scheduling with options for same-day treatment and emergency walk-ins. They also offer flexible appointment times and various payment options to enhance affordability, accepting Medicaid and Medicare, working with most major insurance providers (including Delta Dental, BCBS, and Connection Dental), and providing membership plans and financing options like CareCredit. While reviews for the broader "DentalWorks" brand can be mixed, individual locations often receive positive feedback for specific dentists and staff members. For DentalWorks Louisville specifically, patients have praised the friendly and professional staff, efficient service, and the clear explanations provided regarding treatments.

I love this place. Everyone here is so friendly. Also, they do an excellent job breaking down the costs of treatments and communicating what needs to be done. I recommend this place!

After multiple issues with billing, I have had enough of Dental Works. The dentists and support staff who work there are great. However the management of the billing and plan of care provided by the office manager is abysmal. My insurance covers annual exam and two prophylaxis encounters (cleaning) twice a year. More often than not, the office will attempt to collect a $35 co pay for exam.

They attempted to do so today. I was quoted $174 (ish) for the cleaning. I called back after I had verified my coverage with insurance, to speak with the office manager. The assistant I spoke with denied my request to speak with the manager. She stated I would still be responsible for my copay (which insurance had stated should be $0 if a routine cleaning or 30% of cost if billed at a higher requirement of care, about $60 on average in this area) I requested a Letter of Predetermination be sent to my insurance prior to the next visit and was told that would not be happening due to the need for the primary insurance to close out their claim before it could be submitted to the secondary.

She stated this process could take up to a year but I would still be responsible for my copay. I called my insurance company back. They clarified billing to primary before secondary was a common practice that was not necessary, that the claim could be filed with my secondary without the primary claim being finished. The insurance company expressed concern of the history of incorrect and possibly superfluous billing being performed by this office.

Went here on 5/21 as a new patient since my old dentist no longer accepts my plan. I am very conscientious about my teeth, brush twice daily, floss daily and mouthwash 2x a day. Have NEVER been informed of any issues with my teeth from any of my previous dentists over the last 30 years. Today I arrived at DentalWorks and was immediately taken back for x rays… figured this was standard practice for a new dental patient. They did a “panoramic” x ray last, with no warning this isn’t covered by my insurance. . nor did I think to contest this as x rays are covered by my insurance 1x a year… turns out the panoramic x ray is a $32 up charge. I’m then seen by the doctor first who tells me the hygienist will be in soon. She comes in and pokes and prods at my teeth for about a half hour and tells me I have gingivitis.

Confused, I ask how I went from my last check up of “teeth look great” to now I have gingivitis. She tells me she always addresses a problem early and develops a “treatment” plan for me. To the tune of $1500 out of pocket!!! I opt to decline all of this but do go for the $149 “deep clean gingivitis cleaning”. . when I tell you this was the EXACT same cleaning my insurance has always covered, it’s the exact same. She scraped my teeth some more, brushed them, waterpicked them, flossed and sent me on my way. Same cleaning, $149 additional out of pocket cost. This seemed nothing shy of predatory to me to illicit $1500 out of my pocket. .

when I addressed my concerns at checkout I was told the panoramic x ray was necessary and the charge was not optional. She further insisted multiple times the cleaning was different and that’s why I was charged extra for it, despite that just not being factual. Have seen numerous other reviews of people being “upcharged” or DentalWorks trying to sell them a bunch of additional stuff. Steer clear. Go to another dentist. I will not be returning. Thankfully my old dentist has opened a new practice and accepts my insurance. Already have my next appointment booked with her.
