Detailed Introduction

Family Healthcare of Hagerstown (FHH) is a cornerstone of community health in Washington County, Maryland, operating as a private, non-profit Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC). Its mission is deeply rooted in promoting a healthy community by delivering affordable, accessible, and compassionate healthcare to individuals and families of all ages, races, and economic backgrounds. Originally established in 1999 as part of Washington County Hospital, the organization gained its Federally Qualified Health Center status in 2003 under its former name, Walnut Street Community Health Center. In 2015, it relocated to its current, expanded facility at 201 S Cleveland Ave in Hagerstown, rebranding as Family Healthcare of Hagerstown to better reflect its comprehensive scope of services. FHH operates on a "patient-centered medical home" model, aiming to provide a wide array of integrated services under one roof. These services include: Primary Care: Staffed by board-certified physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants, offering family medicine and pediatrics. Dental Care: Comprehensive dental services for children and adults, including preventive, restorative, and emergency care. They also run a "Healthy Smiles in Motion" mobile dental program that visits local schools and neighborhoods. Behavioral Health: Providing mental health services for both adults and children, with a team of psychiatrists, nurse practitioners, and therapists offering diagnostic assessments, medication management, individual and group therapy, and various therapeutic approaches like CBT and DBT. Pharmacy Services: An in-house pharmacy, including a 340B Pharmacy program, to ensure access to affordable medications. Lab Services: On-site laboratory facilities for convenient diagnostics. Case Management and Support Services: Outreach workers assist patients with navigating healthcare, insurance options (including a sliding fee program based on income), and connecting with other community resources for needs like housing or transportation. Patient Education: Emphasis on educating and empowering patients to be active participants in their own care. FHH is committed to serving all residents, regardless of insurance coverage or ability to pay. They accept most major insurance plans, including Medicare and Medicaid, and offer a financial assistance program and a sliding fee discount based on household income and family size to ensure care remains affordable. The organization is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors, with a majority being FHH patients, further reinforcing their patient-centered approach. The facility itself underwent a significant renovation completed in 2015, transforming a 33,000-square-foot office building into a modern health center with 24 exam rooms and seven dental operatories, designed for enhanced patient experience and efficient care delivery. FHH has seen significant growth in patient numbers over the years, demonstrating its vital role in providing essential healthcare services to the Hagerstown community.

Update: 5 star was when I had a good practitioner. She left the facility and I did also after she left. :( No one could give the same care as her. *I love my personal provider. She is thoughtful and listens. Also had guide me to find the right care for my health in general.

Terrible primary care. It's like pulling teeth to get your prescriptions. To make it worse, if your doctor leaves the practice they do not inform you, ignore you when requesting refills. This place is terrible. I'll be looking elsewhere for primary care.

In the last 5+ years I have not have 1 good experience at this place. Lots of unprofessional doctors in the building that don’t follow protocol. Doctors that don’t do regular testing that IS MANDATORY!!! They also have very “cheap” machines that don’t do correct readings. They take weeks to get test results back to you resulting in you losing your job!!! They are too short staffed to be able to complete any paper work in a timely manner that you NEED done for your children to be able to attend school or daycare. My 5 year old child has even been made to feel uncomfortable here.

He had to get a physical for school. The doctor came in the room to complete it and never even notified him of what she was doing. She forcefully pulled his pants down to proceed with his physical. That was my absolute last straw at that place. There are many many other nightmare stories i could go on about… for your own good keep yourself and your children far from this place!

The staff at this place have no bedside manner, are deficient in empathy, are slow to get people vital prescriptions, and they also endanger others by giving them meds that induce drowsiness when they have to drive. The callous attitudes and arbitrary service they offer should warrant them being closed down for good.
