Detailed Introduction

Knoxville Pediatric Dentistry is a well-established clinic specializing in comprehensive dental care for children and adolescents, from infancy through their teenage years. The practice is led by a team of experienced pediatric dentists, including Dr. Bo Townsend, D.D.S., who has over 15 years of experience and is known for his compassionate approach and commitment to global oral health initiatives through mission trips. The clinic also features other highly skilled dentists such as Dr. Ramya Hegde, Dr. Samantha Rose, Dr. Carrie Lambert, and Dr. Minh Huynh. What sets Knoxville Pediatric Dentistry apart is its dedication to creating a child-friendly and comfortable environment. They understand that children can experience anxiety about dental visits, and their staff is highly trained to make each child feel at ease. The offices are designed with children in mind, often featuring interactive play areas, video games, and movie rooms to make visits enjoyable. The practice emphasizes preventive care, believing that early intervention and education are crucial for a lifetime of healthy smiles. Services offered include routine cleanings and check-ups, preventive sealants to guard against cavities, and treatments for cavities and fillings. They also provide various other procedures such as pulpotomies, crowns, and offer sedation dentistry options like nitrous oxide ("laughing gas"), oral conscious sedation, and general anesthesia for children with significant anxiety or extensive dental needs. Knoxville Pediatric Dentistry is committed to open communication with parents, discussing treatment options and financial information transparently. They accept most major credit cards and insurance plans and assist with claims and paperwork. With multiple locations, including Bearden, Farragut, Tazewell Pike, and Sevierville, they aim to serve the communities of Knoxville and the surrounding areas conveniently. Patient testimonials frequently highlight the friendly, patient, and knowledgeable staff, and the positive experiences children have, often overcoming initial fears of the dentist.

My daughter visited this dentist office for a year, she went a total of 3 times, she had some cavities than needed to be filled and 6 teeth capped. We set up an appointment at children's hospital to have them all done at once versus her being traumatized with multiple visits. I sat in a parking garage for 6 hours in my car while my wife was with my daughter. The procedure went on and they put my little girl to sleep. When she was done with surgery she was brought to the car. (keep in mind she was still loopy and should have not have been able to leave yet.

) She slept about 3 hours and woke up, when she showed her teeth the dentist had capped 12 of her teeth including her sicups with silver caps. I've reached out to multiple other offices and they say this was to much extensive work. Also 2 root canals were done. This seems typical of drilling for money. It was covered up in consent papers that he could do more work. However come out and say you are putting silver caps on front teeth.

I called the dentist and he sounded defensive saying he would sue me for slander. I just wanted answers but after reading up its obvious drilling for money was done because of tenncare I will now being paying out pocket to have cosmetic work done. My wife and I cried for nights over this. For the sake of your children and yourself use a different dentist office.

This is my 2nd bad experience with the Farragut location of this practice, and "Dr. Bo" specifically. This dentist may be great with neurotypical/ daycare zombie children but he has the lowest level of tolerance for anyone that might be on the spectrum--or any child that might not conform to how he believes a child should be (completely silent/still). His staff seems terrified of how he might react if a child makes a peep, so they will kindly tell your toddler, preschool age child, or special needs child "not to make any noise" (direct quote).

I can only assume that this is in order to not set off the good doctor. If you enjoy an assembly line style of pediatric dentistry--and you have a fairly quiet and almost lifeless child, you will be welcome here. I should also mention that their site claims to be excellent at caring for individuals with special needs. To that I say actions speak so much louder than words.

Edit your site, Dr. Townsend clearly likes accepting payment from the parents of special needs children/their insurance, but he can in no way tolerate them--unless maybe they are in some type of catatonic state.

My son being autistic, it was a challenge to find a Dr. who could work with him. The staff and Dr's are very kind and patient. They tell him everything they will be doing and what he will feel, which keeps him at ease. They also have tv's above to distract from the fact your at the dentist office. Beautiful office, clean, kid friendly.

Wonderful staff and Dr. Dr. Bo has the kindest bedside manner towards his patients. The way he speaks to my children when they come in for dental work makes them feel so special and calm. He has a way of talking to them in a tone that comes across so welcoming that it puts them at ease.

In dealing with children you know that means a lot. From the front desk, dental assistants and dental hygienists to the Dr they all make their office one of the best places to go for Children's Dentistry. I will never take my children any where else!! Can not say enough good things about them.
