Detailed Introduction

University Pediatric dentistry is a dental clinic with multiple locations in the Western New York area, including the 1800 Maple Rd, Buffalo, NY 14221 address provided. The practice is part of a larger organization called UPD Dental Associates, which also provides oral and maxillofacial surgery, orthodontics, and general dentistry. University Pediatric Dentistry specifically focuses on providing comprehensive dental care for infants, children, and adolescents, as well as individuals with special health care needs. A key distinguishing feature of this clinic is its role as a teaching practice. The dentists are instructors at the University at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine, and the practice is dedicated to training future dentists and specialists in all aspects of pediatric dentistry. This affiliation with the university ensures that the clinic employs up-to-date and comprehensive treatment techniques and materials. The clinic offers a wide range of services tailored to its young patients. These include preventative care like examinations, cleanings, and sealants, as well as restorative care such as fillings and stainless-steel crowns. They are also equipped to handle more complex cases, offering sedation dentistry with a team of pediatric anesthesiologists, and specialized care through their Comprehensive oral health for the Disabled Youth (COHDY) program. The clinic also provides 24/7 emergency dental services, demonstrating a commitment to being available for patients during a crisis, such as a knocked-out tooth. In addition to pediatric dentistry, the broader UPD Dental Associates group offers orthodontics, oral and maxillofacial surgery, and general dentistry, allowing them to serve a wide range of patients from infancy to adulthood.

If I could give this office a zero star I would. Livid with what we have had to deal with and the lack of care, treatment, and guidence! My son had caps put on his teeth years back. Two came off and instead of them replacing them they decided to put in temporary fillings. Well at his last cleaning, the dentist took a look and said those two teeth needed to be pulled. She talked circles around me when asked if this would have been prevented by replacing the caps as they should have done to protect those teeth instead of just filling them. So now we’re referred to sedation (where he is put under anesthesia) because of his “anxiety”. I do not agree with having to put him under, iv line started, and intubated just to pull a tooth. Mind you he already was sedated for the caps we’ve already done this also insurance does not cover the sedation so it’s pricey.

So I decide this is not the best option for us and it can be done with laughing gas and novacaine. Fast forward, he developed an abscess on the gum line of one of the two teeth! I call the emergency line and leave a message…. Dayssss go by and no call back, I call the office and tell them and they said the one dentist handles all emergency calls and will call me, still nothing. Luckily I have enough brains to take him to immediate care and get him on antibiotics. Now we schedule 2 appointments to get the 2 teeth pulled one at a time. Today, his last day of school I had to pull him early, he was upset because it’s the last day, I had to take off of work. Show up for the appointment only to be told they tried to call me this morning to cancel because he was referred to sedation and they are not willing to pull the tooth because that’s not in his treatment plan🤯🤯🤯 what treatment plan? pissed is a understatement! My child has an infection that could go to the bone, brain or even the blood he could go septic and die and they refuse to treat him!!!! Even if we did Sedation it is booked out for months. They won’t treat because of his anxiety from 2-3 years ago.

Every child even adults have anxiety going to the dentist. Don’t they specialize In this? It’s not like he would scream, kick and fight. He would get teary eyed because he was scared. Now we’re sitting here with no guidance no antibiotics no plan in place. Totally disgusted and no one to complain to except google because no one cares! Would not recommend this place to my worst enemy! Time to find a new dentist, one who actually cares about their PEDIATRIC PATIENTS.

My son will no longer be a patient after 13 years due to our last visit. We arrived for our appointment 2 to 3 minutes early, but apparently, we were never checked in and the hygienist took it upon herself to make us nearly 2 hours because she believed that we were late to our appointment. There's definitely something going on with the staff, but to take it out on the patients, is unacceptable. After going up to the desk, for the 3rd time, because we saw the entire waiting room clear out two full times and we had still not been called, the receptionist told me that she checked us in 10 minutes late, but that it was due to a glitch in their system.

How that equates to us waiting 2 hours for a scheduled appointment, and that it's acceptable for the hygienist to make that call, is beyond me. Believe me, we would have walked out if we could have, but my son had a cracked tooth that needed to be addressed that day. We will NEVER be going back!

I contacted this practice on a Monday about a possible emergency with my special needs child. She had a loose tooth which was believed to be an adult tooth and I knew that she would have to be sedated to do any type of dental work on her. The woman I spoke with said I would have to call back on the emergency line and that she couldn’t make me an appointment. I called back the emergency line and about an hour later received a text from the dentist asking me how they can help me.

I sent back a reply explaining exactly what happened and then no response came back. I called the office the next day to explain that I never received a reply back and was told I would need to keep texting the phone number back and that the office staff couldn’t help me. They explained that they are not allowed to schedule urgent appointments without the dentist agreeing. I again sent a text with actual pictures and still no reply.

It is now Thursday and I still haven’t heard anything back. This place used to be great but if you actually have an emergency and value your child’s health. Please go somewhere else.

We have had nothing but positive experiences here!! Minimal wait times for cleanings, and the office staff is great. Our daughter loves going here. Her first few visits really helped to set the tone for visits now that she is getting a little older. No fear!
