I had a terrible experience at Hampton Park Dentistry. I went to the dentist with three issues. (1) I had chipped one of my molars and it was very sharp and hurting my tongue. (2) I asked for a teeth whitening treatment. (3) I was experiencing an aching pain in one of my upper molars. (1) After having X-rays and a cleaning by the dental assistant, I explained to the dentist I had chipped my tooth and the sharp edge was hurting me. She sighed empathetically and said “that must hurt” and did nothing to resolve my issue.
(2) After inquiring about teeth whitening, one of the main reasons I chose Hampton Park over other dentists, they said I should order Crest strips off Amazon instead. (3) After having X-rays and a cleaning by the dental assistant, the dentist must have been with me for 2 minutes before bouncing to her next patient, she referred me to an endodontist. I was horrified that I had spent over an hour of my time for what amounted to basically an elaborate cleaning. I went for a second opinion at a different dentist and received much better and more thorough care as I will explain: (1) My new dentist explained that my chipped tooth was not a serious issue, it was actually just a filling from a few years prior that had come loose and she fixed it good as new in minutes. (2) She explained her various options for teeth whitening, a laser UV treatment or an Opalescence carbamide peroxide gel that I use with custom molded teeth trays. I opted for the trays so I could have more than one whitening session for a similar price. My new dentist was very thorough and talked through all my concerns about teeth whitening.
She explained the peroxide chemical only reacts to the carbon rings which yellow your teeth and that my enamel would be perfectly safe. (3) After explaining my dull aching pain in my molar, she reviewed my X-rays and explained that because the pain is coming from so high up in my jaw, it could’ve been from a sinus infection in the past and that if the pain returns the fix is simply root canal. I had a terrible experience at Hampton Park Dentistry and after switching to a new dentist, I felt incredibly cared for and all my concerns were dealt with and explained. They were very transparent with what’s wrong, and how they are going to fix it.

Let me preface this review by complimenting Anthony and Jaki, two of the dental hygienists at Hampton Park. They were the only silver lining and were extremely patient with taking my X-rays, so for that I commend them on their professionalism and compassion. Initially, I thought I had a found a great new dentist office. I couldn’t have been more wrong. In October of last year, I went in for a dental cleaning and found out I needed a root canal. While I had a successful root canal procedure (thanks to Dr.
Kotz at Tri-County Endodontics), when I called to schedule the temporary crown procedure, I had to wait five days even when I requested to be scheduled sooner should there be a cancellation (and my dentist at the time had assured me I’d be able to get in a day or two following the root canal). It gets better, folks: when I came back to the office a third time for my permanent crown procedure, I found out Dr. Jan had retired (who retires at 35 years old?) and that my dentist, Dr. Lynam, had quit!!! Although the dentist who put in my crown was friendly enough and skillful, it was extremely disconcerting to not receive advance notice of staffing changes before my arrival and made me distrust the office altogether. Also, the receptionist is like Ebenezer Scrooge when it comes to payments for services rendered. She always left me feeling devalued as a patient, as if she were “doing me a favor” instead of doing her job and serving ME as the patient.
I have excellent dental insurance and understand out-of-pocket costs may be incurred, but I had to practically beg the receptionist to schedule two separate payments for my permanent crown. My previous dentist would always allow for a monthly payment plan over time so long as I paid their office invoice in full. This put me in a tight spot financially, having just moved to South Carolina, and made it difficult for me to afford my rent and groceries, let alone holiday shopping especially right before the holiday season. Do yourself a favor and go to River Landing Dentistry where they actually value their patients as human beings and offer a high level of professionalism and affordable payment plans for dental services. Hampton Park Dentistry might as well be called Nightmare on Elm Street Dental.

The office hours are a nightmare. Scheduling is incredibly difficult and contacting anyone in office or the billing department is difficult too. The website is sub par as well. . .
really hard to communicate with them, in general. Additionally, my billing has been wrong for months. When I do get a paper statement, it's incredibly disorganized and confusing. Moreover, I came in for a cavity adjustment and left with sensitivity and discomfort that may lead to a root canal.

This is the first dentist's office in my entire life that I actually liked. They were always extremely professional, kind, remembered me, and their hygienists always had very steady hands and appropriate pressure. I grew up a terrible flosser, a habit I carried with me into my 20's, but during my time at Hampton Park I finally figured it out. But whether it was a later cleaning when my teeth would actually show up in good shape, or one of my earlier appointments when I'd come in and they'd have their work cut out for them – they always did a great job while keeping me comfortable.
I've been with hygienists at other offices in the past that felt like they were trying to teach me a lesson I wouldn't forget when they'd clean my teeth. Not so at Hampton Park Dentistry, they just wanted to help me build better habits and succeed. And they did! Thanks Hampton Park Dentistry!
